It’s time for the NXT UK Heritage Cup to get started, with the matchup of Noam Dar & Alexander Wolfe. They nearly came to blows while matches were being laid out, so best to get this one out of the way a bit earlier. With this one being so combustible, a special guest referee was needed, NXT UK trailblazer Pete Dunne stepped up.
This match would be held under British Rounds Rules. Six rounds, three minutes long, and matches are best two out of three falls. A fall will end a round, and there are twenty second breaks after each round. A KO or DQ ends the match, and whoever leads after six rounds is the winner of the match should it go that deep.
Noam Dar Takes An Early Advantage
Round 1 would start, and the feeling out process would begin. Wolfe had a huge size advantage, but can keep up with the grappling speed of Dar. Dar was getting a bit behind, and floated back to the ropes and broke Wolfes momentum, and took him down with a simple wrist hold.
They’d get tied up in the ropes, and a rope break would be enforced by Dunne. Wolfe would come in with a cravate, Dar slipped out only to be taken down to the mat. This first round would slip to an end, nothing more than a test of each men’s technical skills completed. They’d take their twenty second break to get some water, and Round 2 would soon begin.
Things would start back up as they ended, more grappling with Dar getting the upper hand early, with some foot stomps helping deal with Wolfe. Dunne was being very lenient here, as this is something he does in his own matches. Wolfe went into the corner, and would manage to get Dar on the mat, using his weight to try to force a pinfall.
Dar would get up, only to be taken down again with a headlock. Wolfe seems keen on grinding Dar down, but Dar would channel Johnny Saint with a classic North-South backslide attempt. Dar didn’t get the pinfall here, but after slipping out of a Death Valley Driver attempt, he’d get the first fall of the match with seconds left in the round.
Alexander Wolfe Fights From Underneath
Taking this early lead gives Dar a huge advantage, as Wolfe needs to get two in a row now, and the clock is ticking, having only four rounds to do so. Dar would be dropped with a big hip toss right into a pinfall, getting a two count. He’d hold on and grab a cravate, almost looking desperate.
Dar would escape from the mat after a few submission attempts, and just hide around the ropes and slow the pace down. He can just run the clock out, but Wolfe got a hold of him and manhandled him with suplexes into a choke. Dar slipped out and hit an elbow to the back of the head, grabbing both arms for an easily countered submission. Both men would throw strikes as Round 3 ended, but Wolfe took a cheap shot before the intermission began.
This shot left Dar down as Round Four began, and but he hit the shin kick early, a pump kick and a lariat, getting a near fall on Wolfe. Wolfe dodged a splash, but didn’t dodge the pump kick into German Suplex, getting Wolfe his first fall of the match, putting us back to where we started. Dar again is rocked through that 20 second break, while Wolfe rehydrates.
Wolfe looked for a hot start to the round with a pump kick, but Dar dodged and would trip his opponent. This didn’t keep Wolfe down, and a spinning suplex would plant Dar before a German Suplex would be attempted. Dar fought out and launched some kicks to the head before looking for the submission. The fujiwara armbar would be applied, but Wolfe slipped out and grabbed a head & arm clutch, which Dar shifted into a pinfall.
Who Advances To The Next Round?
A strike exchange would be won by Dar with a back elbow, and he’d get a two count before grabbing another unsuccessful armbar. Wolfe got back to his feet and hit a big lariat and dropped Dar with a leg scissors right into a kneebar. Dar pulled from the book of Pete Dunne and targetted the fingers, a move which disgusted the former champion.
It would work briefly, but Wolfe fought back with a european uppercut, and attempted a powerbomb. Dar would counter into a pinfall and try to use the ropes for extra leverage, but Dunne knows this trick too well and caught Dar in the act. Dunne would kick the arm of Dar off the rope, but Dar would just hit the Nova Roller kick on Wolfe to get the pinfall with just four seconds left in the round.
Following the match, Dunne would attack Wolfe to draw out NXT UK Champion WALTER. It’s clear Dunne wants this NXT UK Championship back, and if he’s stuck in the UK anyways, why not try?
Noam Dar moves onto the next round, where he will face the winner of Flash Morgan Webster vs. A-Kid, which goes down next week. Is Noam Dar going to go all the way? Will Pete Dunne get another crack at WALTER? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
