What once seemed like a sure shot main event talent has fallen down the card in WWE over the past year. Around this time last year, there were rumors starting to swirl that Aleister Black was being considered for a Royal Rumble victory, to be the one to take down Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. Drew McIntyre was chosen instead, and Black became a bit of an afterthought.
He’d have a solid set of matches with Murphy & Cesaro, then get involved in the Seth Rollins & Rey Mysterio feud. During this, he’d suffer a storyline eye injury, get mad at Kevin Owens over that, and turn heel. That was the end of any hype he had, with fans just being confused by the whole ordeal. With any fan excitement about this one promising name dead, it’s no surprise he wants to take a step back. According to reports, Aleister Black is pushing to return to NXT.
Zelina Vega’s Planned Release Might Have Been The Last Straw For Aleister Black
Last night in what is surely going to be a messy situation for WWE to clean up, Zelina Vega was released from WWE. What made this so messy, is that just ten minutes before the news broke, she made a tweet saying ‘I support unionization.’ A report from WrestleVotes would indicate that Black wants to get back to NXT, the brand run by Triple H and not Vince McMahon.
“There’s a bit more behind the scenes to the Zelina Vega release. Frustration from both sides is an understatement. While it can’t be directly tied to today’s news, Aleister Black recently requested to be moved back to NXT, and was denied.”
It’s unclear why WWE wouldn’t want to make this move, except to continue to harm the backstage morale of the locker room. There are no clear plans for Aleister Black at this time, and he could be a major star for the NXT brand with the move down. It would open up big title matches with the likes of Finn Balor, or he could just pop up and take the NXT North American Championship from Leon Ruff.
Black was one of the biggest stars on the NXT brand during his initial run, and it wouldn’t take much to get him back to that level if he returned. Do you hope WWE changes their minds and puts Black back to NXT? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
