After being caught up in the middle of the rivalry between KUSHIDA & The Velveteen Dream, Tommaso Ciampa would come out on the bottom of a triple threat match. He was pinned by KUSHIDA after taking a shot from the cast of Velveteen Dream.
Now, in a rematch from the NXT Championship match at NXT Takeover War Games II in 2018, Ciampa & Dream go head to head one more time. Their previous match got critical acclaim, can the rematch live up to that? Dream even went back to a Hulk Hogan inspired attire for this one, this time channeling nWo Hogan!
Tommaso Ciampa Wants To Expose Velveteen Dream
Dream tried to dive on Ciampa before the match even started, but missed. Ciampa would get a headlock, and apply it tight. The goal would be to expose that injured left arm and remove that deadly cast. This obviously frustrated Dream, who lured Ciampa outside and shoved him into the barricade, hurting the previously injured neck.
The barricade would then be used by Ciampa, who draped Dream across it with a front drop suplex and a running knee strike. Dream would eat a big chop, and be dropped on the announce desk next. Another running knee would be teased, but Ciampa stopped and slammed the injured hand into the table, rolling Dream in and giving himself a pat on the back for it.
Back in the ring, Dream would come back with a fury against Ciampa, before being thrown to the corner, rolling over the top and slamming right into the barricade in a matter of seconds. After this, he wanted to flee, but Ciampa wouldn’t let him. He’d get him back in the ring, hit a big German Suplex and a sliding knee.
The Fairytale Ending would be set up, Dream fighting out only to have that left wrist stomped. Dream fled up top, only to be pulled downward by that wrist. We’d go to a commercial break as Ciampa stomped Dream on the outside.
Ciampa Stays One Step Ahead
Coming back from the break, Dream would have taken a bit of an advantage after sending Ciampa into the corner and kicking him in the face. Dream went up top, only to be chopped and Ciampa would again go after the wrist, but Dream went after the eyes. Some big right hands from Dream would stagger Ciampa, and a big spinebuster would be hit.
Dream would mount Ciampa and rain down big right hands, before applying camel clutch and grinding the cast into the face of Ciampa. This would just fire Ciampa up, who came back with some lariats, hitting five in a row with no wasted motion. He’d again go for the superplex, coming right off the top, but this only got a two count.
Another armbreaker would be followed by another attempt at Fairytale Ending. Dream fought out and went for the Dream Valley driver, but couldn’t get it. Instead, Ciampa was thrown to the outside and Dream dove out onto Ciampa. He’d get Ciampa back to the ring, before suplexing him over the top rope.
Dream hit a superkick and grabbed a steel chair to distract the referee before looking to use the cast. Ciampa countered with a jumping knee, rolled Dream onto the middle rope for Willows Bell and nailed The Fairytale Ending for the win.
It’s clear these two have impeccable chemistry, as this was a fast paced and incredible match. Dream is almost too good at selling, and Ciampa has some of the crispest offense in the game.
