When you look at online reactions to Impact Wrestling, you’ll always see one complaint at the top of every conversation. Someone might love the talent involved, love the storylines and praise the matches, but they probably will have issues with commentary. This has always been the case, but with the AEW partnership having more and more eyes on Impact Wrestling, it’s become a louder complaint by the day.
As of late, commentary has been handled by Josh Matthews & Madison Rayne, and things haven’t been fantastic. Even the best matches Impact can put on will be pulled down by their commentary, and while Rayne is leaving the booth soon, who can step in to help improve their commentary situation?
Matt Styrker & Josh Matthews Did Fine For Recent Impact Wrestling PPV Events
The easiest step that Impact Wrestling can take here, is simply going with their PPV team of Josh Matthews & Matt Stryker. They have shown great chemistry in their recent time working together, even being good back in WWE’s ECW reboot. Regardless, it gives fans two people who actually speak during matches, instead of Rayne parroting Matthews throughout the night.
It’s a simple fix, but Josh Matthews could be better used elsewhere. He works best in a backstage interviewer capacity, much like Alex Marvez in AEW. Who could replace him on commentary though?
Bringing In Aiden English For Commentary
When a bulk of WWE’s undercard was released earlier this year, Aiden English was amongst the ranks. He’s mostly known for his in-ring work, but spent the bulk of his final time in WWE behind the commentary desk. English handled commentary duties for 205 Live, and was absolutely excellent. He’s not been picked up by any wrestling company yet, but could be a perfect get for Impact Wrestling.
It would give them both a commentator to replace Matthews, and give a very capable wrestler to fill in on matches as needed. A commentary team of Matt Stryker & Aiden English, with Josh Matthews handling interviews? That could really freshen up the mood of Impact Wrestling for fans, both old and new.
Do you think that Impact Wrestling needs to freshen up their commentary team? Who would you like to hear become the voices of this show? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
