The New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Wrestle Kingdom 15 series will investigate every aspect of the upcoming two-night Wrestle Kingdom 15 event hosted by NJPW. Over the past 15 years, the event has become known as one of the biggest wrestling events in the world. The fifth piece will look at “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada and his narrative going into Wrestle Kingdom 15.

NJPW presents Wrestle Kingdom 15 live from the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan on January 4th and January 5th. Due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) pandemic, both nights will have attendance capped at a maximum of 20,000 fans to adhere to company social distancing and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada is a former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and holds the record for a combined number of days as titleholder (1,790) and more importantly, combined defenses (30). His staggering 6 defenses per IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign is second to only three-time champion Shinya Hashimoto (6.66) and is tied with former two-time championThe New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Wrestle Kingdom 15 series will investigate every aspect of the upcoming two-night Wrestle Kingdom 15 event hosted by NJPW. Over the past 15 years, the event has become known as one of the biggest wrestling events in the world. The fifth piece will look at “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada and his narrative going into Wrestle Kingdom 15.Yuji Nagata (6).

Okada’s decorated career has also seen him win G1 Climax 22 (2012) & G1 Climax 24 (2014) along with the New Japan Cup in 2013 & 2019. His in-ring accomplishments, combined with his staggering drawing ability, has led to wrestling commentators and journalists dubbing Okada as one of; if not the best wrestler of all time.

However, going into Wrestle Kingdom 15, Okada must face someone he once viewed as a little brother. Reigning Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay turned on Okada and CHAOS during the final night block night of G1 Climax 30, forming the Empire faction in the process.

While on the outside looking in at the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Championship’ scene at Wrestle Kingdom 15, Okada has the opportunity to prove that he is indeed better than Ospreay who claims to be the best in the world.

Okada would be wise to assume Ospreay may have a new Empire member prepared to interfere, but that may not be enough to overturn a focused Kazuchika Okada who has been on form since NJPW returned from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) delay.

Okada will bring forward his best effort during Wrestle Kingdom 15, and there may not be a better wrestler in the world than Kazuchika Okada when he has an extra bit of motivation.
