Last night on Monday Night RAW, The Miz regained his Money in The Bank contract. Despite having been added to the TLC match between Drew McIntyre & AJ Styles by cashing in, it was John Morrison who handed the referee the briefcase, who called for Miz to be entered. Miz himself apparently needs to hand the briefcase over himself, so he will have another chance to do so.
This is another move which ended up devaluing the Money In The Bank contract this year. It’s been years since the contract has felt important, and could it be time to finally put it to rest?
When Was The Last Good Money In The Bank Cash In?
While there have been some truly incredible Money in the Bank cash in’s since the briefcase was introducted back in 2005, they’ve become rare. Edge’s first cash in on John Cena is iconic, Dolph Ziggler cashing in on Alberto Del Rio was nothing short of incredible, and who could forget Seth Rollins when he committed the heist of the century? However, for each of these cash ins, you have moments like Damien Sandow failing to beat a battered John Cena, or Baron Corbin losing in seconds to Jinder Mahal.
The worst offender came last year when Braun Strowman cashed in for a Hell in a Cell match, which ended in a no-contest. That was the moment most fans started to lose hope for the briefcase, but the horrid treatment this year with Otis never once trying to cash in, and The Miz now getting a second chance to cash in? The briefcase has never been less valuable.
Could It Be Time To Let It Rest For A Few Years?
With the novelty having worn off years ago, and WWE lacking creative ways to use the contract? It might be for the best if Money In The Bank as a concept is set aside for a while. You can’t miss something if it isn’t gone, and that could be what Money In The Bank needs. It would give time for the novelty to come back. WWE took King of The Ring away, and it came back with more excitement.
We also need to keep in mind, that it’s hard to do something like Money in The Bank cash-ins without a crowd, as the shock reaction is half the fun. The situation with Miz & MITB could improve once fans are back in the mix, provided he still has the briefcase then.
