It is a huge week in the world of UFC, with Conor McGregor making his return to the octagon on Saturday evening against Dustin Poirier. However, that isn’t the only treat that UFC fans will be able to look forward to this week, as there will also be a midweek UFC Fight Night on the cards. The action gets underway on Wednesday, with two huge fights at the top of the card. The action will be taking place at the Etihad Arena, with the main event seeing Michael Chiesa clashing with Neil Magny.
UFC News: Chiesa vs Magny
Welterweight action will main event the card on Wednesday evening, as Chiesa and Magny will be looking to get closer to the title picture. The fighters are ranked in eighth and ninth respectively by the UFC, with a win for either fighter likely going to be huge for what they can achieve for the rest of the year. Chiesa has enjoyed an excellent couple of years, as he has achieved some of the biggest wins of his career. The biggest of which came in January last year, as he beat Rafael dos Anjos by decision.
Since moving to the welterweight division, UFC fans have been able to see the best from Chiesa. He has won all three previous fights, with two of these victories coming by decision. The only fight that didn’t go the distance was his bout against Carlos Condit, who he beat by submission in the second round in December 2018. The move to welterweight has been excellent for his career, as he has been able to bounce back from the successive defeats that he suffered in 2017 and 2018.
UFC News: Magny Looking For Fourth Win On The Bounce
Magny will come into the fight as the narrow favourite in the betting, as he has been performing consistently since returning to the octagon for the first time in just under two years last year. His first fight since November 2018 was against Li Jingliang in March 2020, as he won by unanimous decision. His two most recent wins have also come by decision, with these victories coming against Anthony Rocco Martin and Robbie Lawler.
His win over Lawler was the last time he fought, with that fight taking place in August last year. Magny has won 14 of his 31 professional fights by decision, while he has won three times by submission and seven by knockout. However, there is an expectancy that this bout will go the distance.
