Malcolm Bivens wants everyone to know that Tyler Rust is not a rookie. He’s a diamond in the rust, and wanted to get some chances for him to shine on NXT. However, Rust got to William Regal’s office before Bivens could, and picked the powerhouse of Bronson Reed to face tonight on NXT.
A win over Reed would instantly put him in the hunt for the NXT North American Championship, but it won’t be easy. Rust was able to take Ciampa to his limits in his debut, but beating Reed is another story.
Tyler Rust Gets An Opening
Rust started with the low kicks early, before trying to capture the wrist of the heavyweight. Reed was able to outpower Rust with ease, and apply a tight headlock. Rust kicked his way free, only to be wiped out with a running shoulder tackle which sent him outside of the ring to Bivens.
After a pep talk from Bivens, Rust got back into the ring, only to be slammed into the mat off a press slam. Rust was flung outside of the ring again with a throw, but this time was able to isolate the arm of Reed and finally had an opening.
Bronson Reed Flattens Rust
Some carefully thrown kicks attacked the arm, and they were starting to get effective. Reed came back with some clubbing blows, before just crashing into Rust, and nailing a swinging chokeslam for a two count.
Rust came back and stunned Reed on the top rope with a running big boot, before taking him down with a Samoan Drop. Reed countered the finisher of Rust, hit a running senton and the Tsunami Splash ended this match.
Bivens was not impressed with Rust picking such a hard opponent, but says that he’ll help pick his battles better going forward. He also looked very impressed with Reed, who Bivens actually managed on the Florida House Show loop a few years back now.
Who will Bivens handpick for Rust to beat? Could Bivens look to switch his client after this match? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
