Following a loss to A-Kid in a British Rounds Match, Tyler Bate was wondering where he stood in NXT UK. He’d release a promo pondering this, only to be mocked by Sam Gradwell. Gradwell has barely been back in NXT UK for two months, and has already picked fights with the likes of Joe Coffey, and now will have to face Tyler Bate in a big match! Can he beat the first ever NXT UK Champion?
Sam Gradwell Needs This Big Win
They’d lock up in the middle of the ring, and Gradwell used his height to take Bate to the mat and grab the arm. Bate was able to use his technical skills to get back up and flip Gradwell. Next, he’d use his speed to kick Gradwell in the face, but a roll-up for two and nail a running crossbody.
Gradwell tried to rush back into Bate, only to get an armdrag and be put on the mat. He’d attack the nose of Bate and get free to hit a scoop slam, and nail some very harsh strikes to Bate. Bate would have his head stomped on the rope, and Gradwell was keen on keeping Bate down and defenseless. He’d absorb some up kicks from Bate and nail a quick double underhook suplex for a two count.
Tyler Bate Is Next Level!
Gradwell just kept to his slow and hard hitting pace, and Bate was in trouble. Bate mounted a comeback attempt with an uppercut, but Gradwell swatted him back to the mat. One more comeback attempt saw Bate kick the braced knee of Gradwell and go for a sunset flip. The pin was countered by Gradwell grabbing the ear of Bate, but Bop & Bang came out to rock Gradwell.
Tyler Bate was throwing some precise strikes and was quickly hitting his stride, getting the diving european uppercut. Bate caught Gradwell in the exploder suplex, and hit the running Shooting Star Press for a near fall. The Tyler Driver was set up, but Gradwell countered out and got dropped with a big STO from Gradwell. Bate got back up, hit the Liger Kick and this time nailed Tyler Driver ‘97 for the win.
Gradwell had his best match in NXT UK so far in this one, but this was just another match for Tyler Bate. It’s clear to see he’s one of the brightest young stars in professional wrestling today. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
