At AEW Revolution, we will see MJF & Chris Jericho challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Championship after winning a Battle Royale on the February 3rd, 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite. However, they are not the only Inner Circle tag to get a title shot. Santana & Ortiz started the match off nicely by sending Matt Jackson over the top rope, while MJF took out Nick Jackson later in the match.
That elimination from Santana had The Young Bucks request a match against Santana & Ortiz for this Wednesday. While having a title change so close to Revolution would normally not make sense, everything might be a bit too well set up for Young Bucks to leave Dynamite with the championships.
Santana & Ortiz Have Proven They Can Beat The Young Bucks
At Full Gear 2019, the opening match saw a tag team epic of Santana & Ortiz vs. The Young Bucks, with Bucks taking the loss on that night. They’d get their win back on Dynamite #11 in a street fight, but that was their last traditional tag team match together. This shows that Santana & Ortiz can beat The Young Bucks in a big match setting, which is what this Wednesday will be.
What makes things even more interesting, is that Don Callis could have some impact on this match. He’s currently doing all he can to undercut The Young Bucks in the eyes of Kenny Omega, so Omega is buddied up with The Good Brothers instead. Santana & Ortiz might get some unintentional help from The Good Brothers in this match, leading to a shocking title change.
More Animosity For The Inner Circle
This would also play into the storyline of friction in the Inner Circle perfectly. Sammy Guevara was the first original member to leave, due to the negative influence of MJF on Chris Jericho. Santana & Ortiz have had their issues, as they were brought in to be the groups tag team, yet have been shoved to the side whenever Jericho wants to chase glory for himself.
Santana & Ortiz winning the AEW World Tag Team Championships would put them on track with MJF & Chris Jericho. It would let them prove that they are the true tag team of The Inner Circle, but that might lead to MJF setting his sights on getting them out of the group next.
