UFC fans were blown away by the performance of Kamaru Usman in the octagon last weekend, as he knocked out Gilbert Burns in the third round of their contest to remain one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC.
However, the attention turns to the heavyweight division this weekend, as a fight between Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis will headline an interesting UFC Fight Night Card. The event will be co-main evented by Ketlen Vieira’s showdown with Yana Kunitskaya.
UFC News: Heavyweight Showdown Headlines Card
The main event will have title implications, as the fourth and second ranked fighters in the heavyweight division go head to head. Blaydes is the fighter ranked at second, and could be very close to getting the title match that he craves. Since turning professional in 2014, he has only been beaten on two occasions, with the last of those defeats coming against Francis Ngannou. Since that first round knockout blow, he has won his last four. Two of those victories have come inside the distance, while his win against Alexander Volkov last year was the last time that he won by decision.
This weekend is a huge opportunity for Lewis to re-emerge as a title contender in the UFC, as he looks for a fourth straight win. He has shown throughout his career that he has the tools to be successful in the UFC, and 19 of his 24 wins have come by knockout. The most recent win that he achieved inside the distance came in August last year, as he finished Aleksei Oleinik in the second round.
UFC News: Vieira/ Kunitskaya Co-Main Event
The heavyweight contest isn’t the only fight that fans will be able to look forward to, as Kunitskaya and Viera will contest the co-main event. Both fighters have sound reputations in the bantamweight division, with Vieira currently ranked as the sixth best. The Brazilian has lost just once in 12 professional fights, but she returned to the octagon with a win last year by beating Sijara Eubanks via decision.
Kunitskaya is ranked as the seventh best fighter in the bantamweight division, and the 31-year-old will be looking to improve on her 13-5-1 record with a second consecutive victory. The former featherweight contender has been in great form in the octagon since moving into the bantamweight division, as he has won three from four. Her only defeat came in December 2019, as he was knocked out by Aspen Ladd.
