Joseph Connners has always felt like he deserves to be a bigger star on the NXT UK roster. He’s been here since the very beginning, starting with the brand back during the initial tournament, but never gets much respect. Conners was in the Heritage Cup tournament, but was literally knocked out of the first round by Dave Mastiff. Lately, he’s linked with Jinny, only to cost her the NXT UK Women’s Championship. Tonight, he looks to finally have something go right for him, as he faced Josh Morrell in singles action, with Jinny cheering him on from ringside.
Jinny Keeps Conners On Pace
Conners would waste little time getting this match started, locking up with Morrell and going for the cravate. A snapmare was followed by a pinfall attempt, but Morrell kicked out at two. A full nelson was applied, before moving to a headlock. Morrell is a fast wrestler, and Conners had to keep him isolated. The second he got free, Morrell nailed a dropkick, and Conners was sent to the outside.
Jinny gave him a pep talk, reminding him that he is worthy, and this opponent is nothing. Conners took Morrell to the mat with a wrist lock, and when Morrell tried to get fancy to escape, he was shut right down. Morrell met the bottom turnbuckle face first, before taking some heavy chops and a hard lariat.
Joseph Conners Gets A Much Needed Win
Another snapmare would be followed by a crucifix pin attempt, Morrell kicking out and taking a hard blow to the back. Conners kept this attack up with a backbreaker, catching a running Morrell and bending him over his knee for a near fall. Another submission on the mat would isolate Morrell, making it hard for him to get moving. This didn’t work as planned, as Morrell broke free and was able to get moving, but a running headbutt from Conners dropped him.
Morrell was able to get some offense going with a running dropkick and flipping senton, before twisting out of the corner to catch a rushing Conners with an arm drag. Conners kicked out at two, dodged the 450 Splash and had a powerbomb countered into a hurricanrana. The DDT from Conners dropped Morrell, before Conners set up a vicious neckbreaker for the win.
