The Rock has spoken openly about some of the most influential figures that have shaped his life and career. The people in question range from across the wrestler’s life, with some inside the industry and also those closer to home.
The Rock Drops Some Truth Bombs During A Fan Q&A
In a question and answer session with his fans via Twitter, The Rock praised Vince McMahon for the business nous that he had taught him. After all, The Rock was one of the few wrestlers to bridge the gap and enter into the acting business just as another star, John Cena, had done.
He tweeted: “[Vince McMahon] was one of my greatest business mentors and a father figure. Not always the relationship one would want with their boss, but the convergence of our lives made it to be. We laugh when we get together because we always pick right back up where we left off.”
But it was also in-house that The Rock received the best wrestling education. He grew up in a family that had massive adoration for wrestling but not from the traditional figure you may have expected in the family. It all came from his grandmother, Lia Maivia, who reportedly ruled the household with an iron fist as The Rock would go on to outline.
He added: “My grandmother, Lia Maivia, didn’t f*ck around. She promoted wrestling with an iron fist, and getting violent with the wrestlers if they “got outta line” was common. Behind closed doors. She was ruthless with everyone, but I was always her baby #slappinggloves #YoungRock.”
The Rock’s openness seems to fall in line with his new show entitled, Young Rock which seeks to reveal the stories that we may not know about the wrestler’s upbringing. And by the sounds of it, The Rock is seeking to do that in all capacities. In an interview with USA Today, he revealed the exact motivations behind the show.
He said: “The fun thing about ‘Young Rock’ is everything that people see in this first episode, and throughout the season, everything happened. “Now, what we do is, maybe it happened in a different year, maybe it happened in a different city.”
