There has been a noticeable absence within WWE as of late. This is Keith Lee, who hasn’t wrestled since the February 8th episode of Monday Night RAW. He was supposed to challenge for the United States Championship alongside Matt Riddle at Elimination Chamber, but was pulled from the match the day of the show.
His replacement was decided in a Fatal Four Way match on the preshow, which John Morrison won, defeating Ricochet, Mustafa Ali & Elias to earn his way in. Morrison would go on to take the fall in the United States Championship match, which Riddle won. That night, his absence was explained by an injury at the hands of Bobby Lashley, and an injury is looking increasingly likely.
Keith Lee Was Victim Of A Series Of Unfortunate Events
2021 has not been the year of Keith Lee unfortunately. He would first miss the Royal Rumble due to his fiancee Mia Yim catching COVID-19. This led to Ricochet taking his spot in the Battle Royale, but he was able to come back from this. He’d start to build up to potentially winning the United States Championship, only to be injured during a beatdown from Bobby Lashley.
Missing two PPV events back to back on the Road to Wrestlemania can really derail any momentum someone has. Every show between Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania is used to build the coming card in some way, shape or form, and Keith Lee has missed too much time to make a big Wrestlemania debut. Even if he’s healthy in time, the best we can reasonably hope for is him getting a spot in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale, provided that match is even part of the two night event.
Primed For A Post Wrestlemania Return
However, things might not be all that bad for Keith Lee at the end of the day. He might miss Wrestlemania, but if he’s ready to come back to the ring right after Wrestlemania? We have an easy storyline on our hands.
He was taken out by Lashley, who has a 50/50 chance of leaving Wrestlemania still WWE Champion. Lashley will defend against Drew McIntyre, which is a fairly unpredictable match given how strongly both men are currently booked. Should Lashley walk away as champion, it wouldn’t be hard to build up Keith Lee as a potential challenger. There’s history there with the injury, and chemistry as shown by matches on Monday Night RAW.
Alternatively, we could see a rivalry between Keith Lee and whoever leaves Wrestlemania as the United States Champion. Riddle is the current champion, with Mustafa Ali being built up as a potential challenger. Getting Lee in against Retribution means a chance of seeing Lee face T-Bar, better known as Dijakovic. That alone makes that an attractive option.
