Drew McIntyre has backed Khabib Nurmagomedov to make a name for himself in WWE.
Will Khabib Nurmagomedov Join WWE
The now-retired UFC fighter will have no shortage of offers on the table. While a return to the UFC is out of the question, due to the promises he made to his mother, wrestling is plausible. After all, other combat fighters have crossed the line into wrestling: Floyd Mayweather and Tyson Fury are examples, in addition to Connor McGregor, who could do the same.
In an interview with TMZ, Drew stated how Khabib could change the fight game. He said: “Khabib’s so talented that I reckon he could make some noise. But Khabib’s such an amazing performer in the UFC, and if he can’t quite figure out that part, we’ll make it work.” While there has been no official approach to Khabib’s team, there is no doubt that work will be going on behind the scenes.
Take, for example, Tyson Fury. He recently dropped the bombshell that he was about to face Drew this coming summer, until covid intervened. Likewise with Khabib, Drew sees another person that the fans could gravitate towards to. The former UFC fighter is known for his mental strength. This was signified when he carried on his next fight, at the time, despite the passing of his father, who had been his longtime coach.
While he would later go on to retire and cite his father’s death as one of the reasons, Drew believes he would bring positivity to the sport. He added: “We’re about enhancing the positives and hiding the negatives. I think the fans would be very excited to see him. Khabib would be a huge star for us.”
So is this a realistic possibility? Well, it seems Vince McMahon had attempted to sign Khabib back in 2018. And given that Khabib never joined, we know it must have turned sour. A quick look at Khabib’s Twitter feed will tell you exactly what he thought about it all. In a previous tweet to his fans, Khabib remained indifferent towards the prospect of wrestling.
He said: “@WWE, ask me to jump inside. What do you think, guys? #SmashLesnar #FakeFights.” We will have to see if Khabib can be swayed. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
