WWE Smackdown Preview was surprised that Roman Reigns will do anything he can to avoid facing Cesaro, and that includes giving Daniel Bryan another shot at the Universal Championship.
When pressed, Reigns gave Bryan the opportunity on the stipulation when Bryan loses, he leaves the Smackdown brand.
Reigns said he doesn’t like him and never did.
Cesaro urged Bryan to accept the opportunity and he did.
With Bryan talking about switching to a part time wrestling schedule for months and his contract nearing its end, we expect him to lose any way possible and leave Smackdown.
We’d like to see this be a really good to great match to give Bryan the send off he deserves, but it’s the WWE so we expect Jey Uso to run in and cost him in some cheap way.
We hope we’re wrong.
Intercontinental Championship – Apollo Crews (c) w/Commander Azeez vs. Big E
After a hundred and one rematches, Apollo Crews finally defeated Big E to win the Intercontinental Championship, albeit it with some help.
So, it’s only fitting Crews gives Big E just as many chances to win the title back, right?
Since the WWE removed rematch clauses a couple of years back, this is more along the lines of coming from the goodness of Crews’ heart so we expect this and maybe one more match.
This should be a good match, and assuming Azeez stays out of it, which we doubt will happen, Big E would be the logical pick given his previous dominance.
Of course, as we say that it’s also safe to assume Crews will have newfound confidence and that’ll help him carry the day and retain his championship.
While Crews and Big E regularly put on great matches, we have a feeling this will end by disqualification, which will force a No DQ or Last Man Standing match at Backlash to finally end this feud.
We fully expect Azeez to get involved to try to save Crews, but Big E will be ready for him and fight him off numerous times throughout the match before he either pins Crews or Crews hits him with a cheap shot.
The cheap shot will be caught by the ref and he’ll disqualify Crews, which will make Crews happy as he gets to keep his title for a little while longer.
While this is an obvious attempt at the WWE to try to boost their ratings, it’s forgivable as we’re going to get two high quality matches that could/should be on a pay-per-view.
