The time has finally come to get All Elite Wrestling (AEW) back on the road. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, AEW has kept their heads down. They’ve run shows from both the Nightmare Factory in Georgia and Daily’s Place in Florida, and slowly but surely reintroduced live crowds into their events. With AEW owner Tony Khan confident about doing a 100% capacity show in Daily’s Place for their coming Double Or Nothing PPV, it’s become clear that they will be ready to take the plunge and get their show back on the road. Today, they announced multiple dates outside of their home base for July, as they look to get things back to the way they once were.
AEW Announces Dates In Miami, Austin & Dallas
Starting on Wednesday, July 7th at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Florida, AEW are finally leaving Daily’s Place. The following two weeks will see AEW return to Texas, hitting up H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas (greater Austin area) and then Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas (greater Dallas area). This makes AEW the first major company in America to leave their home base since the pandemic started, as even WWE hasn’t strayed far from Florida with the lone exception being taping the 2020 Money In The Bank match at their headquarters.
Getting back on the road infront of fresh sets of fans will help to shake some dust off the AEW product, which has gotten stale visually within the same arena week after week. In their statement they were sure to note that “we are working closely with the venues to comply with state and local regulations in each city”, with this just being the start of them getting back on the road.
Will WWE Follow Their Lead?
With AEW having broken the ice on this situation, it won’t be long before we see WWE start to leave the WWE Thunderdome behind either. Their shows are suffering from the same issue of staleness, with the exception of NXT which has never been a touring brand and has seen old crowd sizes return. Wrestlemania showed that WWE was truly missing the fans, and getting WWE back on the road and bringing fans back into the mix in a safe way could be essential to keeping viewers at home watching.
WWE has announced no plans to get back on the road yet, outside of announcing next years Wrestlemania for Texas, but it’s very unlikely that Vince McMahon will wait after AEW gets back on the road. We can reasonably expect WWE to get back on the road by July or August at the latest.
Do you think it’s too soon for AEW to be getting back on the road, or will they be able to keep fans and talent safe? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
