In the short history of the AEW World Championship, we’ve never seen it defended in a triple threat match until now. It’s always been the champion and one opponent, but tonight Kenny Omega has to face both PAC & Orange Cassidy with the title on the line. He tried to get Orange Cassidy to take his shot another day, only to get punched in the face.
Omega doesn’t even have to be pinned tonight to lose his belt, so he’s going to have to be on high alert. PAC is one of the few men to have wins over Omega in AEW, and Cassidy has beaten Jericho twice. They’re here for a reason, but Omega is a triple world champion for a reason.
Big Fight Feel From The Start
PAC went right after Omega as this one started, and OC held back until Omega sucker punched him. Omega & PAC stayed in the ring, where PAC took a shoulder tackle and popped back up to crash with Omega in the middle of the ring with crossbodies. OC slipped back in and got just a one count on both men.
Clearly motivated tonight, OC hit a double hurricanrana, Sucide Dive and Swinging DDT for a near fall on Omega, while keeping PAC outside. PAC got back in but had a focus on Omega, taking him out of the ring and hitting a moonsault press. A big shotgun dropkick to OC would send him flying into the corner, and PAC waited to hit another on Omega.
A third dropkick took both men out, and PAC was in firm control, until Omega kicked him in the face. He’d hit the Rolling Fireman’s Carry on PAC and a backstabber on OC, before hitting a backdrop in the middle. PAC & Omega exchanged blows in the middle, before OC rolled up Omega for a near fall.
OC went for another DDT, but Omega countered into a backbreaker. This only got a two count, before Omega would waste time mocking OC and hitting a forearm strike to the back. OC & PAC were batched up outside as PAC yanked OC out, and Omega dove onto both of them.
Orange Cassidy Uses His Pockets
Back in the ring, Omega went for a Fisherman Buster and OC countered into the Stundog Millionaire. OC looked for Beach Break, before trading pinfall attempts with Omega, as PAC set up and nailed a 450 Splash. Omega pulled out the snapdragon suplexes, nailing two on OC before looking for V-Triggers.
OC would be crushed, but PAC dodged and hit a german suplex. Omega blocked a kick but PAC countered. OC was used as a shield by Omega to confuse PAC before dropping him with a lariat. A V-Trigger to the back of Orange Cassidy’s neck, before looking for a top rope Dragon Suplex.
OC fought free by putting his hands in pockets and digging his heels in, as PAC took Omega down with a German Suplex. PAC rolled outside, and hands still in pockets dove onto OC, got in the ring and was dropped on his head with Tiger Driver ‘98 for a two count. PAC would be hit with Croyt’s Wrath for a two count, and the knee was exposed by Omega.
A knee to the jaw dropped OC, and Omega could have won there, but wanted V-Trigger. OC put his hands in pockets… and collapsed. PAC went after Omega and took a heavy handed chop and V-Trigger, before OC hit a Michinoku Driver on Omega before PAC caught OC with a brainbuster for a two count.
PAC set up a stalling superplex and Omega countered before climbing the ropes for a super One Winged Angel. Omega would lose the grip and take a powerbomb instead, before PAC got the super falcon arrow. OC dashed in, threw PAC aside and got a super close fall that had the crowd chanting ‘That was three!’, but it wasn’t.
Kenny Omega Manages To Survive
PAC took the devastating low kicks from OC and hit a hard low blow in response, before taking Omega out and hitting Black Arrow on OC. Omega broke it up just in time, and OC might be out. PAC went for Black Arrow on PAC before looking for One Winged Angel. This was countered into the brutalizer, but The Orange Punch saw Omega drop PAC out of the ring before OC got another near fall off the Beach Break.
OC caught another low blow, before PAC went for the powerbomb and got an Orange Punch. Omega took one, and Don Callis ran from commentary to try to help Omega. PAC was taken out, but Callis pulled the referee out before three. Omega would catch OC on the top rope, and take some headbutts before PAC caught the diving DDT. Brutalizer was applied, but Omega tried to break it up, but when that didn’t work he took out the referee.
Callis threw in the Impact title for a belt shot, then the AAA, then the TNA, and finally the AEW. OC would get the Orange Punch on Omega and cover him, Aubrey Edwards getting to the ring to count the pin, but Omega countered with a flash pinfall to win.
This was about as dramatic as a Triple Threat match gets. Every single man had this match won on multiple occasions, and without Don Callis, Orange Cassidy would be AEW World Champion. Every single man showed their skills tonight, Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
