Nick Jackson is ready to finally claim his first singles championship as he challenges Rey Fenix for the AEW International Championship tonight on the fourth anniversary of AEW Dynamite.
Nick & Fenix are familiar foes – having battled over the tag team and trios championships. They even have a singles meeting from the early days of Dynamite – and tonight should be similarly spectacular.
Kenny Omega Was On The Edge Of His Seat For Adam Copeland’s Debut
Renee Paquette would catch up with Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega backstage – saying that the first main event of Dynamite saw them as enemies.
Four years has changed a lot, and their mutual enemy in Don Callis has brought them together. Adam Copeland would join in on the fun, adding another Canadian to the mix.
He would say that he intends to be here for the eighth anniversary of Dynamite – and would shake hands with both Jericho & Omega before walking off.
Before Copeland left, Omega said his debut had him on the Edge of his seat. Copeland’s last message before heading back to prepare for his promo tonight was for Jericho & Omega to beat Callis tonight – he hates that guy too.
Rey Fenix & Nick Jackson Are Familiar Foes
Fenix & Nick would get a standing ovation before they even locked up. Some chain wrestling would lead to a stalemate – before Fenix threw a big overhand chop to the chest.
Fenix would get a two count off a Sunset Flip, before Nick would get a roll up for a one count. Nick would almost be lifted by Fenix, but the back of the champion gave out.
Fenix would send Nick to the floor, and hit a springboard arm drag – harming his back more. The back issues came from his match with Jeff Jarrett last week, and called for an early night from him at WrestleDream.
Nick would whip Fenix into the barricade, before taking Fenix into the ring for a backstabber. Fenix was sent to the floor, and a PK off the apron would go wrong as Fenix dodged – causing Nick to kick the ring post.
Nick would have his other leg sweeped, causing him to land on his face. A kneebar would be applied by Fenix in the ring, and Nick would be forced to get a rope break to remain in control.
Nick would kick Fenix in the back before hitting a backbreaker in the ring. An exchange of strikes would follow in the ring, with champion and challenger exchanging superkicks and roundhouse kicks.
Fenix Escapes As Champion Once Again
Fenix scored a two count off a hurricanrana, before hitting a superkick to put Nick on the ropes. The champion would slip out to the floor, and Nick was on point – moonsaulting to the floor to stay one step ahead.
Nick would again show his familiarity with Fenix, countering a rolling cutter with one of his own. Back in the ring, Fenix would be spiked with a facebuster – getting Nick a near fall.
BTE Trigger would be stopped as Fenix would jump to his feet. Fenix would take a kick to the head, but maintained wrist control as Nick went to the middle rope – following up before being dropped with an Avalanche Cutter for a near fall. Poisonrana would be blocked before Nick hit a Canadian Destroyer, scoring a near fall.
BTE Trigger would land on the second attempt, but Fenix was still able to kick out. A superkick would be blocked, before Fenix kicked Nick in the side of the head to set up the Frog Splash for the near fall. Nick would counter the Fenix Driver into a roll up, only to lose control on the mat – and be pinned for the three count.
