Two weeks ago, AEW got one of their biggest signings since they started. They were able to get Andrade El Idolo onto an AEW contract, following his recent release from WWE. This third generation luchador is set to once again take the world by storm, and tonight he will sit down with legendary commentator Jim Ross to explain what his plans for AEW truly are.
Jim Ross Gets Some Answers From Andrade El Idolo
Jim Ross would call Andrade a superstar, and ask why he chose AEW. Andrade responded saying AEW has a ton of talent, and stars, but didn’t have a superstar until him. Ross would ask Andrade what championship he’s after between the TNT Championship or the AEW World Championship. Andrade is interested in both titles, and feels he deserves the championship.
Next up was a question about Vickie Guerrero, and Andrade is with her because she has experience helping out third generation wrestlers. But fans need to wait, as Guerrero and Andrade have a surprise planned for the near future. Any surprises are likely to wait until AEW is back in front of a big crowd, so we can expect to see more on July 7th.
Julia Hart Impresses, But Penelope Ford Is Too Much
With a new champion on top of the AEW women’s division, names like Julia Hart & Penelope Ford have to show their skills to try and climb to a shot at Britt Baker. Hart has been impressing on AEW Dark, while Ford is a proven name for the company and has taken previous AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida to her limits.
Hart had Griff Garrison & Brian Pillman Jr. in her corner, and would get taken down to the mat with a headlock quickly by the more experienced Ford. Ford would be countered into a headscissor, but was able to kip up to get free and hit a shoulder tackle but got cocky. Hart hit a dropkick and a running crossbody, sending Ford to the outside.
Ford tripped her up onto the apron, hit a forearm smash and a slingshot knee strike. A handspring back elbow and running boot in the corner was followed by a German Suplex from Ford. Ford got some vicious elbow strikes, before a commercial break came. Hart would be firing back the strikes when we got back, before missing a lariat in the corner.
Ford would get rolled through but came back with a lariat. Hart came back with some strikes, but took a big gutbuster from Ford. Ford went up top, but missed the moonsault. Hart went for the splits legdrop, but missed. Ford got the Muta Lock, and Hart had no choice but to tap out.
Julia Hart is already solid in the ring at only 19 years old, making her one of the key figures in the future of the AEW Women’s Division. However, Ford is the veteran and had her outclassed for the entire match. It was a simple match in the women’s division, but kept it short and sweet, which was the smart call given how inexperienced Hart is. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
After the bell, Miro came to ask where Kip Sabian was. Ford was outnumbered, and Miro took it on him to defend her honor. He’d take Garrison out with a lariat, before taking Air Pillman. Is Pillman Jr. next in line for a shot at the TNT Championship? What will Andrades surprise be? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
