Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and challenger Marvin Vettori had their first verbal duel over the weekend.
Adesanya and Vettori will square off in the headlining fight of UFC 263 this June 12. The promoter has started to heat up the duel with a joint interview conducted by Michael Bisping and the result was unmissable.
Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori trade insults ahead of UFC 263
“I don’t like you, man,” Vettori would say in the middle of the conversation.
“I #$%& hate you, man,” would be Adesanya’s response.
Snippets of the interview appeared during the English-language broadcast of UFC Vegas 28. However, it was difficult to make out much beyond the insults and eventual shouting. However, Michael Bisping, serving as moderator, tried to set the record straight at times.
Next Saturday’s fight will serve as a rematch to their 2018 duel, Marvin said he was convinced he had won the fight. This provoked laughter from Adesanya and annoyance from the Italian.
“He laughs, but you’ll see. I’m going to settle the score once and for all, and I’m going to show him who is the best middleweight today.”
“Forget it already!” Adesanya would reply as he pointed out that that was part of Vettori’s problem. I’m going to finish the job. Last time you had hope because some dumb judge gave you that damn fight. But everyone knows you lost it. This time I’m going to make sure. You’re going to see me and you’re going to realize it’s over. That’s going to be it. You can’t beat me.”
After Vettori gloated about getting a rematch despite Adesanya’s assurances that it would never happen, Israel mocked the Italian’s attitude for celebrating such a thing.
“He’s like that crazy ex-girlfriend that you dump and won’t leave you alone. The one who keeps harassing you, who scratches your car, shows up at your workplace, trying to get your attention any way she can.”
“I’m your fucking nightmare, dude!” Replied the Italian with a huge grin, “I’m going to be there your whole life!”
“Bro, you’re the Italian wet dream. You’re no nightmare. Your friend Gastelum would have every right to throw himself at me, but he doesn’t because he’s really a man, and he thinks he’ll see me again.”
Shortly thereafter Adesanya would mockingly warn that it is he who has improved the most since the first duel with Vettori. Israel criticized Marvin’s footwork and striking technique, but also noted that the Italian has improved in his wrestling. However he claims that this will not be enough to be able to compete against him.
“You’re going to see me and you’ll know I’m better than you.” Approaching the camera in an intimidating manner, Israel finished off, “You have zero hope this time.”
