AEW has been doing a great job of giving an insane amount of indie wrestlers tryouts with shows like AEW Dark, and Dark: Elevation. Better yet, they will generally get a chance to actually shine, and keep their character from the indies. This gives a great chance for a wrestler to show why AEW should take them in for a full contract. The latest name to get this chance is the current IWTV Champion, Wheeler Yuta.
Wheeler Yuta Will Face Karl Anderson On AEW Dark: Elevation
In what could be the match that makes the episode worth watching, Wheeler Yuta will be taking on Karl Anderson in a first time singles match. While he’s not what he once was, Anderson is as solid as a wrestler gets, and should play a great foil to the technical expertise of Yuta.
Yuta has been everywhere lately, making it clear why AEW & WWE have both been interested in scooping him up. WWE had Yuta in for a tryout in May 2021, but no deal was made at this time. Now, AEW is taking a good look at him.
He’s also worked plenty of matches for Ring of Honor in their Pure Division, and recently started working with New Japan Pro Wrestling in a tag team with Fred Yehi for NJPW Strong. This isn’t even covering his work on the indies, where he had a 40+ minute Match of the Year Contender with Lee Moriarty.
Could We See AEW Sign Yuta?
Recently AEW owner Tony Khan stated that he wanted to expand the roster in the coming months. They’re about to launch a new show with AEW Rampage, and would likely be looking to sign some major indy stars like Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia. Yuta has proven to be popular with fans, and is an incredibly adaptable worker.
However, as WWE continues to cut names from their roster, AEW might be more tempted to sign names who would instantly bring more hype for their brand. A name like Yuta might get there, but Tyler Breeze would instantly bring the hype.
