Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory would make their way to the ring with an unknown purpose. We last saw Gargano in the ring at the Fatal Five Way at In Your House, and last week speaking to William Regal & Samoa Joe backstage.
Pete Dunne & Johnny Gargano Both Want To Be #1 Contender, Get A Tag Team Match Tonight
Tonight, he’d be saying that NXT needs a new face of the brand alongside the new management, it needs a new face. Someone charismatic, family friendly, and who rocks a headband. That someone is Johnny Gargano, and his 57 days as NXT Champion were when the brand thrived the most, in his opinion at least. He can out wrestle Karrion Kross on his worst day, and wants his chance to prove that.
Pete Dunne would come to the ring to dispute this claim with Oney Lorcan at his side, and before Austin Theory could speak Dunne told him to shut up. Dunne would say he should be the number one contender, before Gargano & Theory would respectfully leave the ring.
Theory took a moment to say he’s gonna be keeping his eyes on Dunne… only to have his fingers snapped. Afterwards, they’d go to the office of Regal, and a match was set up, with Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan tonight in tag team action!
Io Shirai & Zoey Stark Show Their Skills
Last week, Io Shirai was attacked by the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell. The Joshi Judas was unable to fight them off herself, but when Zoey Stark came to her aid, she was able to fend them off. Tonight, Stark & Shirai will officially team up, but you don’t start with the champions. Instead, they will face Aliyah & Jessi Kamea of Robert Stone Brand to get tuned up as a team.
Aliyah would start with Shirai, and be taken over with an armdrag before Shirai hit some chops and a flapjack. A basement dropkick sent Aliyah to the corner, before Stark got a tag in. Stark hit a sliding lariat on Aliyah, sending her into the wrong corner, allowing a tag to Kamea. Kamea got a spinning wheel kick, before getting a two count.
Hartwell & LeRae made their way to ringside as Aliyah pummelled Stark in the corner, making quick tags with Kamea to keep the pressure on. We’d cut to a commercial break, and once back Stark was getting desperate for a tag. Aliyah had a tight waist lock, but Stark countered with a spinebuster.
Chaos In The Women’s Tag Team Division
Shirai got the tag and would take out Kamea with a flapjack, before nailing a springboard dropkick for a two count. Aliyah got a tag and a two count off a Northern Lights Suplex. Robert Stone Brand was showing some great chemistry, and Shirai leaped for a tag to get Stark in. Stark soared in with a dropkick before hitting the Half & Half Suplex, setting up the moonsault from Shirai.
The NXT Women’s Tag Team division is finally gaining some traction, with teams like Robert Stone Brand, Shirai & Stark, Kai & Gonzalez, Moon & Blackheart and Team Ninja all in the mix looking for title shots. All but Team Ninja would get into a massive brawl as The Way watched and Samoa Joe called for security.
