Danny Sabatello, dubbed “The Italian Gangster”, stepped in at the last minute to fight former UFC fighter Brett Johns. Sabatello utterly dominated Johns, and took to social media afterwards to declare war on the rest of the Bantamweight division:
“You’re all f**ed!” he posted on Instagram.
Sabatello delivered a truly dominant performance at his Bellator debut. He used his clearly superior wrestling to throw Brett Johns around the ring. He set the tempo throughout the fight, and this was reflected in the judges’ scorecards, delivering him a unanimous win.
Sabatello was clearly thrilled with himself following the fight:
“Not only did I beat the guy, but I beat him on five days’ notice and dominated that motherf****r. It just shows that Sabatello is here and I’m coming for the belt and plan to dominate everyone that way, too.”
Sabatello wasn’t even on the Bellator roster a week before the fight, but he plans to dominate the division. He named Jornel Lugo and Josh Hill as likely candidates for his next bout, as well as “p*ssies” James Gallagher, Patchy Mix, and Leandro Higo. Sabatello is clearly a huge personality. In a sport of big personalities, where trash talk and flashy attitudes often catapult fighters to stardom if they can back it up in the Octagon, Sabatello is declaring his intention to compete with the best:
“I’m coming for the belt and plan to dominate everyone that way, too.”
Although his nickname seems like something out of the Sopranos (or Jersey Shore), Sabatello’s wrestling ability and stellar 11-1 record speak for themselves. Sabatello and Johns were both debuting in Bellator, meaning that a ranked spot is unlikely the the “Italian Gangster”. Of course, Sabatello has his opinions about that, too:
“All those people that don’t think I’m that good can go f*ck themselves. I hope I get a ranked opponent in my next fight, smash him too. You can put me in then or leave me out, I don’t give a sh*t.”
Sabatello needs to strike while the iron is hot and continue fighting as soon as possible if he is serious about claiming Bellator’s Bantamweight title. Ex-UFC fighter Sergio Pettis currently sits at the top of the division, defeating Juan Archuleta to claim the title at Bellator 258.
Danny Sabatello can run his mouth with the best of them. Only time – specifically, time in the ring – will tell whether the “Italian Gangster” can fight with the best as well. Let us know in the comments if you think this Bellator newcomer is all talk, or if he will go on to become the champion he believes himself to be.
