Camilla, for her part, has been a mainstay in the Royal family ever since she decided to marry Prince Charles in 2005. This was a significant moment, as it marked the period in which Charles had moved on from Princess Diana following her death.
And given that she took on her new role with such ease, the wider family made sure that they paid their respects. Prince William and Kate Middleton wrote the following on social media: “Wishing the Duchess of Cornwall a very happy birthday today!”
It was not just the duo who have been grateful towards Camilla. Charles, himself, has spoken on how integral she has been in keeping the Royals stable. After all, she did not have the easiest time when she married.
A certain subset of the public were left angered, as they saw the marriage as an attempt to usher Diana’s influence out of the public realm. Nevertheless, she took it all in her stride. And Charles made sure that everyone knew just how much she meant to him.
In a prior interview with CNN, Charles praised Camilla’s response to the public criticism she had been getting. He said: “I think, been brilliant in the way she’s tackled these things. … It’s always marvelous to have somebody who, you know, you feel understands and wants to encourage.
“Although she certainly pokes fun if I get too serious about things. And all that helps.” Fast forward today, Camilla is not the one who has been getting criticised. In fact, the negative attention has now turned to Meghan Markle.
Her bombshell interview with Oprah on CBS has divided public opinion. And yet, if there is anything that can be learnt, it is how Camilla has approached adversity. While Camilla has remained largely silent about her views on Meghan, there is no doubt that the latter could benefit from picking her brain.
