Right now, the top merch seller on ProWrestlingTees is none other than the Worlds Cutest Wrestler, Maki Itoh. Mostly known for her work in TJPW and her crude antics on Twitter, Itoh has captured the hearts of fans all over the world. Add in a few big spots in All Elite Wrestling giving her a more global spotlight, and this ex-Idol is ready to take everyone by storm… but no major companies want to give her the chance.
Maki Itoh Hasn’t Gotten Offers From WWE or AEW Following Her Performance In AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament
On a recent live stream, Itoh would be asked if she received any offers for contracts from either WWE or AEW. Unfortunately, the answer was no. She was brought on for the AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament, but that was it. Just a few dates, including a surprise appearance at Revolution 2021 and a match with Riho on AEW Dark Elevation.
Those performances got high reviews from fans, but wasn’t enough to get her on full-time yet with either major company. Itoh is still active in the ring for Tokyo Joshi Pro, and working as a vocalist for idol group Tokiwoikiru.
Itoh Is Doing Fine, And The Future Remains Bright For More Time In AEW
However, this might not be an issue with Itoh herself, but rather due to the difficulty of getting a work visa for another country during the COVID-19 pandemic. International travel has been hard to pull off for most companies, and that was likely why Itoh only got a few dates in the United States when AEW brought her over.
However, she’s still got a ton of ground to cover in TJPW. Many view her as a future champion, and at only 25 years old? She’s potentially got a long career ahead of her. AEW might miss her at her peak of popularity, but Itoh is only going to keep improving as her career moves forward.
TJPW also has a good working relationship with AEW, having recently set up Yuka Sakazaki to do an excursion in the United States as part of their roster. If that run goes well for Sakazaki, we could see the same happen for Itoh before long.
