Two Men, One Tag had the potential to be a great tag team in Ring of Honor. The experience and skill of Silas Young combined with the youth and power of Josh Woods made them a deadly combination, but Woods had other plans. He wanted to be a singles star, and showed great promise getting wins over former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle. However, Young didn’t agree with this route for Woods and now seeks to teach him some lessons in the ring. After two matches left Woods & Young tied one to one, tonight they meet in a Last Man Standing Match.
Josh Woods Gets The First Blow
Before Young could even get to the ring, Woods would have him taken down from behind. Young was thrown into the barricade, before being hit with his own Backbreaker/Lariat combo in the ring. Woods would grab a steel chair, only to have Young throw to the referee at him, and stop the attack. Young used the chair and grabbed a table, before hitting the Anarchist Suplex off the barricade.
Woods would be stomped on the outside, as Young grabbed out a ladder under the ring as well. Young was interrupted and driven crotch first into the ring post from a backdrop driver position, getting a four count from the referee. Back in the ring, Woods would set up a table in the corner, before hitting some corner to corner strikes to Young in the corner.
He’d finish with the rising knee strike, before Young countered the Belly to Belly Suplex and drove Wood through the table. Both men were back up at six, and would exchange forearms in the middle of the ring. Woods applied the Gorilla Lock in the middle of the ring, and Young would crawl to the ropes. Young couldn’t take a rope break, and would tap out, but that wouldn’t finish this one.
Silas Young Crashes Through Two Tables
Woods would let Young fall out of the ring face first, and the damage to the legs was done. Young barely got up, but he was able to break the count before ten. Another table was set up, as Young crawled around. Woods went for a deadlift German Suplex on the floor, but Young hit a mule kick style low blow. A fan suggested Woods use a chair, and Woods took a seat.
Young would go for a running cannonball, and was caught into a powerbomb, being thrown into the ladder. Woods would throw seven or eight chairs into the ring, before chucking Young in as well. Young would hit the backbreaker in the ropes, before throwing Woods onto the chairs in the ring with a variation of Misery. Woods slipped to the outside to break the count, before hitting a German Suplex off the apron through two tables. Young wouldn’t be able to reach his feet before Woods, getting Josh Woods the win.
A simple but brutal Last Man Standing match. We saw some range and brutality from Josh Woods as he entered the signature match of Silas Young and managed to win. The student surpassed the teacher, and it was a fun story told. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
