This past Wednesday at AEW Road Rager, we saw Andrade El Idolo make his in-ring debut against Matt Sydal. Andrade has wrestled a few untelevised events since being released from WWE in early 2021, but this was his first high profile match. He showed that he can still deliver in the ring, which has renewed hope for his coming match with Kenny Omega meeting expectations.
RUSH Wants Kenny Omega After Andrade
This isn’t a match that will take place in AEW, but rather in AAA where Omega currently holds the AAA Mega Championship. The match will take place at AAA Triplemania XXIX, set for August 14th. Andrade first gained a contract there following his WWE release, before later signing with AEW. While this might be the end of Omega’s reign, a challenger has stepped up to challenge should Andrade fail.
Current ROH World Champion, RUSH has staked a claim to Omega should Andrade not win the belt. Andrade & RUSH go way back as friends, having created the Los Ingobernables stable together in CMLL.
In an interview with SportsIllustrated, RUSH would say the following. “If Andrade doesn’t win, I’ll be the one to take the championship off Kenny Omega. If I get into the ring against Omega, I’ll take his title and make it very clear who is number one in the ring.”
Could This Lead To Kenny Omega Challenging For The ROH World Championship?
This opens a fun possibility for Kenny Omega to claim another championship. RUSH is the current Ring of Honor World Champion, and is set to defend against Survival of The Fittest 2021 winner Bandido this Sunday at Best in The World. Should RUSH retain and get to lay down a challenge to Omega, this could be quickly turned into a Champion vs. Champion match akin to Omega’s match with Rich Swann.
Omega is after all the major titles, and currently has three of them. Grabbing the ROH World Championship would be a natural step, and he’s got plenty of history with the company as well. Their taped nature would make it easy for Omega to slip in, much like how he’s able to do both Impact & AEW.
