UFC Vegas 32, headlined by Cory Sandhagen fighting a returning TJ Dillashaw, was not short on controversy. Fighters who began the bout a betting underdog won the day in every bout on the main card, including controversial decision wins for Maycee Barber, Raulian Paiva, and, finally, TJ Dillashaw.
Cory Sandhagen was baffled by the scoring in his immediate post-fight interview, telling Megan Olivi that he didn’t want to be a “little whiny baby” but that he thought he’d won the fight by doing far more damage to TJ than TJ could inflict on him. Sandhagen was not alone in his position, with other fighters taking to social media to air their confusion.
“WTF is going on?” UFC personalities SLAM dismal judging at UFC Vegas 32
Daniel Cormier, for one, repeatedly expressed frustration with the quality of judging on the card, cementing his opinon on Twitter: https://twitter.com/dc_mma/status/1419102305954058244
“WTF is going on? DC was similarly confused by Maycee Barber being handed a decision win after a mauling at Miranda Maverick’s hands through the first two rounds:
“Live odds for maverick vs barber at the end of the fight was -1200 maverick! She lost wow”
Former UFC fighter Din Thomas echoed these sentiments, throwing in a sly jab at the judges’ vision while he was at it:
“We need to fix the judging system. I’m tired of seeing fighters go home with half their money because Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder got it wrong.”
Ariel Helwani declared “Tonight is a great reminder why it MMA may be so much fun yet so dangerous to gamble on. At least two legit head scratcher decisions.”
