Fans have been impatiently waiting for the return of CM Punk for eight years. While he has gotten into the ring under a mask for a few indy shows, and worked WWE Backstage for a short while before the show would get cancelled. However, AEW might finally bring what fans have truly been wanting: a full in-ring return.
They’ve played into the rumors with Darby Allin setting up a potential match, and with some major shows coming in Chicago? It might finally be coming, and now Chris Jericho has chimed in on these rumors.
Chris Jericho Feels AEW Will Be Fine With Or Without CM Punk
During their time together in WWE, Chris Jericho & CM Punk clashed many times, including at Wrestlemania 28. While speaking with Inside The Ropes, Jericho would address the CM Punk rumors – and how big that would be for AEW.
“It would create a huge buzz that would add to the already huge buzz that we have, and I think just the fact that 12,000 tickets sold at the United Center without one name even being announced, or one match even being announced, shows just how much anticipation there is for all of these things. So, yeah, we’ll see what happens.”
However, despite having some pull backstage as one of their biggest and most experienced names? Jericho doesn’t seem to know if Punk will be coming into the company or not. AEW has kept him in the dark like everyone else.
“I honestly, really don’t know. It’s something that I know nothing about. Obviously, it’s intriguing and I’ll be watching along with everybody else to see what happens. But we’ve got great momentum without Punk and we’ll have great momentum continuing without him, and great momentum with him if he shows up. So either way, I think we’ve built ourselves up into a great position right now.”
Potentially Not A Match AEW Can Do
However, even if CM Punk comes into AEW, we might not see a rematch of this match from Wrestlemania. Right now, Chris Jericho seems to be set to retire in his upcoming match with MJF. If he is able to survive and keep his career intact, and Punk returns to the ring? This might be a match AEW chooses to do.
It likely would be a main event to a major episode of Dynamite, or a midcard match on a PPV. Do you think we could see CM Punk take on Chris Jericho in AEW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
