Dauntless Dustin Poirier “Living Rent Free” In Conor McGregor’s Head

Dustin Poirier has many reasons to be magnanimous about his relationship with Conor McGregor, not least among them the consecutive knockouts defeats he handed McGregor this year. While McGregor maintains his steady Twitter habit in recovery for a broken leg sustained in the last Poirier bout, Dustin is happy to focus on his family and his future.

Poirier told ESPN that he isn’t bothered by McGregor’s online agitation and is happy to live “rent-free” in Conor McGregor’s brain.

“It doesn’t really bother me, I don’t really care. When I think about in hindsight, like today, I was thinking about it like, ‘The guy’s probably losing his mind.’ He can’t really train. He’s got a hurt leg that he’s trying to rehab. Rent free. I’m just living rent free.”

What Poirier puts down to stir-craziness, others like Khabib Nurmagomedov have labelled “evil”. Whatever the cause, Dustin Poirier is happy to concentrate on his standing in the UFC as of today.

Poirier is looking like the most likely contender for the lightweight title currently occupied by Charles Oliveira. Oliveira won the title via a brutal second-round TKO victory over Michael Chandler earlier this year, and has yet to defend his newly acquired belt.

Poirier once held the lightweight interim title, only to have it unceremoniously ripped away at the beginning of Khabib Normagomedov’s terrifying reign atop the lightweight division. Since then, Poirer has dutifully slugged away at a variety of opponents, working his way back up to a shot at the strap.

What comes next for Dustin Poirier after a title fight? Does he stick around at lightweight to defend the title against the likes of Justin Gaethje and Islam Makhachev? Will he retire upon achieving his career-long dream? Poirier himself hinted at a move to welterweight, fighting at 170 pounds rather than 155. When asked if he would test himself against larger opponents, he was confident.

“Of course I would. Those are some big guys, man. We’ll see.

I definitely can fight at 170. Honestly, now at 155, my metabolism has caught up. When I was cutting to 145, between fights I would get a lot heavier than I do now. I think my body was getting messed up and holding on to a lot of weight. I would shoot up to 190 when I was fighting 145.

Now I don’t get past 182. That’s really the max I walk around at. But I think I could fight at 170, too. There are some fun fights there.”

Would you like to see Dustin Poirier fight at welterweight? Maybe his grudge match against Colby Covington could finally take place. Let us know in the comments.
