Following up the all women’s PPV of NWA EmPowerrr, was a second NWA PPV this week – and one that was just about as good. It was the 73rd anniversary show for the company, and they delivered on an awesome main event when Trevor Murdoch put his career on the line for another shot at Nick Aldis, and the huge return of NWA Legend Ric Flair! Let’s break down everything that went down on this show.
A Jam Packed Card
The opening match of the night was a simple affair, which saw fan favorite and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tim Storm come out on top in a no dq three way match over Crimson & Thom Latimer. A solid opener which got the crowd going, before Mickie James & Kylie Rae kept them going. The NWA National Title was on the line, with Chris Adonis managing to keep James Storm down to retain.
His next challenger was decided in a battle royal, with Judias last removing JTG to earn a shot. Speaking of next challengers, Kamille knew she had a date with Chelsea Green tonight. So just 24 hours after going to war with Leyla Hirsch, she’d get back into the ring for another epic match, and once again came out on top. Finally, the NWA World Tag Team Championships would change hands, as Aron Stevens & Kratos would fall to La Rebelion (Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf).
Ric Flair Cuts A Classic Promo
In a great moment for fans in attendance and at home, Ric Flair would return to the NWA. He was recently released from WWE, but had nothing bad to say about them. Infact, he’d thank WWE, Vince McMahon, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and more. Everyone that picked him up while he was down.
He’d also mention that he plans on having a drink with AEW owner Tony Khan very soon, which means we could very well see him show up at All Out. The crowd reception had Flair getting emotional, with Flair claiming that the NWA will never die after looking back on his storied history in the promotion. It was a great promo, and one worth seeking out.
Ending The 1043 Day Reign Of Nick Aldis
However, Flair wasn’t the main event of the show. That was a career threatening match for veteran Trevor Murdoch. At NWA: When The Shadows Fall, Murdoch made an attempt at beating Nick Aldis, something many have done over his 1043 day reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. An iffy finish would leave a sour taste in the mouth of fans, but Murdoch wasn’t done.
He’d put his career on the line for one more shot, and in-front of this red hot crowd, he’d give the performance of his career. In the end, he was able to do what few have been able to do in the last few years and defeat Nick Aldis. We have a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion, and this is the first world title reign for Trevor Murdoch, a payoff to a long career of hard work.
Will Murdoch be able to carry the belt for nearly as long as Aldis? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
