Nick Aldis Passes 1000 Days As NWA World Heavyweight Champion

Since Billy Corgan took over the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), he had a clear vision for the top of the card. This vision was centered around Nick Aldis. The former TNA World Champion has the look of a champion, carries himself well during promos, and is consistently able to put in solid performances in the ring. While some fans simply dislike Aldis, he has filled his role as NWA World Heavyweight Champion very well, and has now passed a milestone as champion.

Nick Aldis Has Passed 1000 Days As NWA World Heavyweight Champion

As of July 17th, 2021, Nick Aldis has passed the 1000 day mark in carrying the historic Ten Pounds of Gold. To make this even more impressive, this is with 30 title defenses counted in, from legends like Ricky Morton, up and coming names like Flip Gordon, or savvy modern veterans like James Storm.

He even started his reign by defeating Cody Rhodes in a Best Two Out Of Three Falls match. His latest defense was against Trevor Murdoch at NWA: When The Shadows Fall. It has been an impressive reign, and before the COVID-19 pandemic set in, Aldis even did his best to play the role of a traveling champion, with defenses in Canada, the UK and more.

    Other Champions Over 1000 Days

The NWA has been around for a very long time, and Aldis is not the first man to have held this title for so long. He is the first champion since Dan Severn to have such a long reign, with Severn holding the championship for 1,492 days in the mid to late 90’s. Harley Race came close in the 70s, holding the belt for 926 days. Dory Funk Jr. held the belt for 1,536 days into the 70s, and he ended a 1,131 day reign from Gene Kiniski.

Gene Kiniski ended a 1,079 day reign from Lou Thesz, who is the only man to have such a long reign twice. Thesz held the belt for a record setting 2,300 days in his first reign, with 1,061 title defenses during. We will never see title reigns like this again, which makes this stat unbeatable, especially at Aldis’s current pace.

How much longer will Nick Aldis hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
