Last night was potentially the most talked about show from the National Wrestling Alliance since the debut episode of NWA Powerrr. For months now, Mickie James has been helping to promote an all women’s PPV, seeing as WWE isn’t keen on giving the fans a sequel to the wildly popular Evolution PPV from 2018. Thankfully, people are talking because the show was actually a great time, and here’s what went down.
New NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned
Despite having only 856 fans in the arena, it was a hot crowd the whole night. In the opening match, Kylie Rae got a huge pop as she hit the ring for a Triple Threat match, which saw Diamante from AEW get the win over Rae & Chik Tormenta. We’d also see a one night tournament to crown NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions, with The Hex (Marti Belle & Allysin Kay) getting to the finals with a win over Hell On Heels (Renee Michelle & Sahara Seven). Meanwhile AEW stars KiLynn King & Red Velvet defeat The Freebabes (Jazzy Yang & Miranda Gordy) to push forward as well.
The first title match of the night would be held over the Impact Knockouts Championship, with champion Deonna Purrazzo once again travelling to find some tough competition. Former WWE Women’s Champion Melina would be her opponent, but despite a veteran edge, she was unable to defeat Purrazzo. We were guaranteed a new champion when The Hex met King & Velvet however, with NWA’s The Hex preventing AEW from taking the vacant Tag Team titles.
Awesome Kong Has One Last Moment With Gail Kim At NWA EmPowerrr
One of the biggest moments of this show wasn’t even a match however. That would come when the legendary Awesome Kong would hit the ring… perhaps for one of the last times. Having been trained by Aja Kong, she was always on the fast track to success, and in Impact Wrestling she truly made a legacy that she could be proud of. One of the people who was incredibly important was her main rival, Gail Kim.
While WWE was still stuck in the Diva’s era, Kim & Kong were stealing the show in Impact on the regular. They were proving to American audiences that women’s wrestling is something to take seriously. So as Kong officially announced her retirement, she did it side by side with Kim, who is a rival and a close friend at this point. Truly a moment for the ages.
Chelsea Green Is Next In Line For Shot At NWA Women’s Championship
Probably the best match that came from this event was the one for the historic NWA World Women’s Championship. It was set up on an episode of AEW Dynamite, with Leyla Hirsch looking to chop down the tower that is Kamille. They absolutely tore the house down in a match truly worth seeking out, with Kamllie being the one left standing when the dust settled.
However, she doesn’t have much time to relax, as her next challenger was determined in the Women’s Invitational Cup. Ten women entered, from all over the industry, but only one would stand tall – that being Chelsea Green who is really showing up everywhere these days. Green would be the last one standing, getting a shot at Kamille tonight at NWA 73.
Could Green be the one to end the reign of Kamille? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
