This past week on NXT, Pete Dunne confirmed his alliance with the giant Ridge Holland. The future seems bright for The Bruiserweight at this point, but his future might not be keeping him in WWE. In the midst of the contract of Adam Cole potentially coming to an unexpected end soon, Pete Dunne might also be on his way out of the company, as his contract ends very soon.
Pete Dunne Has Been Treated Well In WWE
This report came first from Fightful Select, which simply noted that the contract of Dunne was coming up very soon. Dunne originally signed with WWE back in 2017, likely on a five year contract, which makes sense given WWE’s massive push to break into the UK market. After an impressive reign as NXT UK Champion, Dunne would go on to form a short-lived but beloved tag team with Matt Riddle in The Bro-Serweights, winning both the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic & NXT Tag Team Championships.
After coming back from the UK following a stay there due to COVID-19, he returned to NXT looking stronger than ever. In recent months, he’s taken Finn Balor to the limit over the NXT Championship, took KUSHIDA down with ease, was shown to be a proper threat in the Fatal Five Way, and is seemingly set for a major clash with Samoa Joe soon.
Unlikely To Leave WWE.
His booking alone would indicate that WWE is very likely to do their best to keep him, but Dunne has also been proving himself behind the scenes. Despite only being 27, Dunne has been proving himself useful as a backstage agent, helping to put matches together in NXT UK. Add in being a strong favorite of Triple H and a new parent, Dunne is someone who is expected to stick around with the safe option of WWE.
No doubt that if Dunne would leave WWE, he would be fine. He is the type of talent who can stand out and shine on just about any roster in the world. AEW, NJPW, Impact, etc. would all suit him well, but might not give him as prominent a role like what he will find in WWE. Do you think Pete Dunne could leave WWE when his contract is up?
