The WWE has been looking for a way to improve their ratings and one surefire way is to bring in fan favorites for an initial splash, and it worked on last week’s WWE Smackdown as Becky Lynch’s return as Ratings Rebecca helped boost the show.
After he impromptu return at SummerSlam and subsequent 25-27 seconds squash of Bianca Belair, it was only natural she’s appear on the following Smackdown.
Though brief, her appearance appeared to help the show’s rating bump up to a reported over night 2.874 million viewers compared to the previous week’s average of 2.237 million viewers.
But it gets better and trickier.
While the overnight numbers were solid, the overall average dropped to 2.250 million viewers on average, putting it just above last week’s final tally of 2.102 million viewers as reported by wrestlinginc.com.
Smackdown also ranked number one in the key 18-49 demographic for the third week in a row, and it appears to be the largest audience the show has had since the July 16 show when live crowds returned.
Taking the credit
It also looks like Becky Lynch is settling into her new heel role pretty well as she took to Twitter to take full credit for the ratings bump by labeling herself “Ratings Rebecca.”

She’s not wrong as many undoubtedly watched to see her. She’s one of the top performers in the world and she deserves tons of credit for what she’s accomplished.
But as a heel, we’re not surprised she neglected to mention a portion of that ratings bump came from fans hoping/wanting to see Brock Lesnar too.
He didn’t show and rumor has it they want to save him for special moments, meaning we got half of what we expect and will have to wait for the rest and hope it’s worth waiting for.
Turning it around
Sadly, so far it’s about what we expected from the WWE as they love to bring in the names to get attention, but then the weak storylines fail to keep the new audience.
They have flashes and we hope they continue to improve, but this has been the story for years and eventually they’ll run out of stars to bring back to make a splash.
With any luck, they have an awesome story that’ll help Lynch become an awesome heel and repair Belair into a semblance of the Est they spent month building her up to being.
We can’t fault anyone for their in ring work, and we hope they’re given better material for out of the ring to help bring in more fans. After all, the Man can only do so much.
