Yesterday it was reported that there was a special guest in the building for Smackdown Live in Tampa, Florida. This was NXT superstar, Adam Cole. Cole is the source of a lot of news and speculation in WWE currently, as due to an oversight his WWE contract finished up last month. While he signed an extension to finish up a feud with longtime rival Kyle O’Reilly, WWE are determined to get Cole to stay. This all led to a meeting with Vince McMahon himself, and things seemed to have gone okay.
Vince McMahon Wants Cole On The WWE Main Roster
In a report from Fightful Select, we would get some details about the meeting between Adam Cole & WWE CEO Vince McMahon. From some higher-ups in the company, they heard the meeting went very well. McMahon seemed to really take a liking to Cole, which would bode well for his future in the company should he resign.
Cole was not backstage during Smackdown, and was originally set to be brought out to see Vince last week during Smackdown Live in Minnesota. This was changed due to logistical reasons, as it’s easier with Cole living and currently working in Florida. No contract updates were given, besides that Cole has been given pitches for both RAW & Smackdown.
Can Adam Cole Trust WWE For Job Security?
However, this is an odd time for WWE contract negotiations. Last night, around the same time as Cole had a meeting with Vince McMahon, twelve more names were released from WWE. This brings the total for 2021 up to around fifty-two names released from WWE. Among these names was former Undisputed Era member, Bobby Fish.
It’s unclear if Cole & Fish were close behind the scenes, but if so that is not exactly a great way to convince someone that they might want to stick around in a company. In general, this year has been horrible for backstage morale as even major names like Bray Wyatt & Braun Strowman got cut from their contracts. There is little job security to be found as WWE is rampant with cost-cutting measures, which could factor into the choice of Adam Cole.
