During his time in WWE, Braun Strowman won a few championships. He is a one time World Champion with his reign as WWE Universal Champion, while also winning the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships and the Intercontinental Championship. Add in a Money In The Bank victory, and you have a decent list of accomplishments. However, there is one accomplishment and championship fans often forget about; The Greatest Royal Rumble championship.
Remembering The Greatest Royal Rumble
On April 27th, 2018, WWE held their first supershow in Saudi Arabia. This was the start of a long deal between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and generally also considered to be the best show that happened as part of the deal. Matches like John Cena vs. Triple H, Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz vs. Samoa Joe in a Ladder Match, and AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura took focus on the undercard, but the main event was the biggest match in the mix.
It was a 50 man Royal Rumble, the biggest in company history, which included names like Daniel Bryan who last over an hour, Chris Jericho who wrestled his final match for the company, whoever Hiroki Sumi was, The Great Khali, and of course Titus O’Neil with his now iconic ‘Titus Worldslide” entrance.
The winner of this match was Braun Strowman, who entered at #41 and had 13 eliminations on his way to victory, last eliminating Big Cass. As a reward for being the winner of this big match, he received both a trophy and a championship.
And That Championship Was Never Mentioned Or Seen Again With Braun Strowman
After the event, WWE.com would list Braun Strowman as the Greatest Royal Rumble Champion, but only briefly. The title itself was in line with the designs of the WWE & Universal Championships, but with a green strap and the logo of the Saudi General Sports Authority on the side plates. It wasn’t the worst looking belt in WWE history, but it was the shortest lived.
Following The Greatest Royal Rumble, Strowman still had the trophy but not the championship. The championship itself would actually never be mentioned by WWE again, or seen on their programming. If we assume it was an active championship all along, Strowman has been champion for over 1100 days, but the belt would now be vacant after his release.
