Dan Lambert has been mouthing off on the regular with AEW programming lately. Backed by American Top Team and now The Men of The Year – it’s been a challenge for anyone to stand up to them. However, Chris Jericho & Jake Hager would gladly step up and tonight they will team up to take Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky down a peg.
Chris Jericho Still Gets The Crowd Hyped
Page & Sky would hit the ring to little reaction, but the New York crowd was ready to sing along to Fozzy. Jericho is still a big name, and if anyone gets Men of The Year over – it’s him. He’d lock up with Sky first, a man who has beaten him before in AEW – first man to pin him here.
Jericho would nail some big chops before a running throat trop and a middle finger to Ethan Page. Some lariats in the corner would do some damage to Sky, who fell to the mat. Hager would tag in and hit a running shoulder tackle, before Page got the tag and got tossed. Jericho choked Page in the corner, before Hager hit a big belly to belly suplex.
Page would get to kick Jericho in the head as revenge, and it’s worth noting that he’s the only man in this match who hasn’t beaten Jericho. After being choked on the ropes, Dan Lambert hit a punch to the face behind the referee’s back. Sky looked for a superplex, but was shoved off and hit with a Jushin Liger style crossbody. Taz claims he wrestled Liger, and he did back in 1992. He lost. Twice.
Men Of The Year Pull Off The Upset Of The Year
Hager and Page would brawl to the outside, with a big shoulder tackle taking down Hager. Sky would look to follow up in the ring, and Men of The Year made quick tags but one lariat from Hager ran Page down. Jericho needed a tag, and would get it. Page took a triangle dropkick, and Sky a diving axe handle.
Jericho was looking great, and got a Lionsault in the middle of the ring for a two count. Hager through Sky across the sky and hit a Hager Bomb, before applying an ankle lock. Page got the Liontamer, but they fought free. Hager would hit the ropes, Lambert tripped him and Sky got a roll up win.
An average tag team match. Page & Sky are becoming a great tag team, and Jericho is always fun. Hager was there like always, but didn’t take away from the match. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
After the match, Junior Dos Santos and Paige VanZant would have to come to the aid of Lambert. They’d circle the ring with more of American Top Team, and Jericho & Hager were beaten down by former UFC World Champions.
This is still a massive upset for Men of The Year, one that could really set how they are perceived as a tag team in AEW. Could they be on their way to gold? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
