He was quickly removed from TV and is currently just working dark matches. It’s being speculated that he is working in Dark matches to prepare for a new heel gimmick.
There were also reports that Adam Cole was meant to be his manager, but with Adam Cole leaving to AEW, that won’t be the case. However, Keith Lee is still going through some changes. With the latest change is a new nickname. The new nickname is Bearcat.
Why Bearcat is a great name
Some may not know that Bearcat Wright is one of the first black champions in wrestling. His career spanning through the 50s and 60s, with him winning the belt in 61. It seems like Keith Lee’s new nickname is to pay homage to the late great Legend. This was revealed through the Dark show when they announced Keith Lee as the Keith Bearcat Lee. It’s also being speculated that Keith had input on this change.
It May still be a weird choice
Keith Lee is currently being rumoured to be turning heel. If this name will be a frequent part of Keith Lee’s new gimmick. It may be a weird choice as Bear Wright is a known babyface character. They may be changing Keith’s name to this may mean that Keith might not be turning heel as initially rumoured. Instead, his name, paying homage to a great wrestler. However, it could be a significant step forward to Keith Lee and hopefully seeing him more on TV soon.
