Last night, Jeff Cobb finally was able to get a one on one victory over the ace himself, Kazuchika Okada. However, he’s not free of him yet. Tonight, they kick off the main card in tag team action, Okada teaming with Tomohiro Ishii and Cobb with Great-O-Khan. All four men are expected for the G1 Climax tournament, so a win tonight would go a long way for faction morale. However, Cobb & O-Khan together are one of the best tag teams in NJPW, having the best win-loss record of any tag team in 2021.
Kazuchika Okada Is Focused On Jeff Cobb
O-Khan would start with Ishii, with Ishii able to block the takedown attempts. Ishiii would block a claw attempt, but have his leg grabbed into a knee bar, but Ishii was able to get a hold of O-Khan’s leg and send him reeling. Okada tagged in but would go after Cobb on the outside and take a huge Belly to Belly Suplex for his troubles. Cobb would drive Okada into the apron before feeding him into O-Khan in the ring.
Okada would be able to fend off the attack, but Cobb coming in with a headbutt did some damage. Cobb would take a neckbreaker, and Okada was able to tag in Ishii who could match Cobb in power and aggression. O-Khan got into the fray and was run down by The Stone Pitbull. Cobb would look for a suplex on Ishii, but was consistently blocked and hit with a suplex from Ishii instead. Ishii would be thrown with a release Belly to Belly, and he’d pop right back up to take a dropkick.
Great-O-Khan Drops Ishii
O-Khan tagged in, hung Ishii up in the Tree of Woe, before hitting a sliding dropkick to the face. He’d lift Ishii for a Gutwrench Suplex, before looking for some double team offense with Cobb. Cobb would be caught by a flapjack from Okada, before O-Khan was dropped by Ishii for a two count. They’d trade forearm blows in the middle of the ring, and Ishiii would win out as expected.
Cobb rushed in and saved O-Khan with a running uppercut before a double kick. Okada tried to make the save but as he went for a dropkick Cobb would catch him. He’d get free and nail two dropkicks, before leaving the ring as Ishii was locked in Sheep Killer. Ishii fought free and nailed a headbutt before being dropped with the Eliminator for the win.
A solid but unremarkable tag team match. Cobb & Okada were still beat up from their singles showcase the night prior, leaving the heavy lifting to O-Khan & Ishii in this one. They were able to bring some solid brawling, and finished strong. Match Rating: 2.75/5 ()
