Back in February, Hiromu Takahashi had to give up the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship after suffering a shoulder injury. Since then, El Desperado won the vacant belt before losing it to Robbie Eagles in Tokyo Dome, but now Takahashi is back for his belt. Eagles got a tag team win over Takahashi yesterday, but can he win in a big time singles match?
Robbie Eagles Wastes No Time
Eagles started fast with a running boot, but Takahashi stood tall and grabbed a headlock. Takahashi would lose control before a fast paced opening showcase would give the crowd a taste of what they can do. Eagles would take a chop to the chest, before a quick armdrag and running hurricanrana dropped Takahashi.
Takahashi would dodge Turbo Backpack, but still be sent to the corner. Eagles would roll Takahashi into an attempt at Ron Miller Special, before Takahashi fled the outside. A cannonball senton through the middle ropes would crush Takahashi into the guard rail. But Eagles let him get out – not wanting to take a count out win. Some big chops came from both men, before they’d get back into the ring.
Eagles would isolate Takahashi on the mat and go after the legs, setting up the Ron Miller Special. A testing pinfall got a two count, before they’d get into a strike exchange. Takahashi came with the chops, while Eagles got some leg kicks. A running hurricanrana from Takahashi took Eagles down, before a running lariat in the corner and a low dropkick.
Eagles went to the outside, and Takahashi hit a shotgun dropkick off the apron to send him flying through the gate of the barricade. Back in the ring, a Falcon Arrow got a two count, before Takahashi would look to hit the running Death Valley Driver into the corner. Eagles slipped out and looked for Turbo Backpack, but was shoved off and took a shotgun dropkick before running into a Belly to Belly suplex.
Hiromu Takahashi Taps Out
Looking for Time Bomb, Takahashi would be unable to drop Eagles before being sent off the ropes. Eagles would hit a low Tiger Feint Kick to the back of the knee. A missile dropkick to the knee would be followed by the Ron Miller Special being applied. Takahashi would crawl to the ropes, but after a long time in the hold the damage would add up.
Eagles followed up with yet another attempt at Turbo Backpack, before being thrown with a German Suplex and landing on his feet. Some quick kicks would look to soften up Takahashi, before Eagles was picked up and rammed into the corner with the running Death Valley Driver. Eagles would be sent over the top rope and nailed with the Sunset Bomb off the apron.
Getting in at a nineteen count, Eagles was run down with a lariat. Takahashi was able to hit a set of thrust kicks before an elevated flatliner for a two count. Eagles would go for a roll up for a two count, before having to avoid a brainbuster and ending up in Dynamite Plunger for a two count. Takahashi hit a deep reverse DDT, which could be called a Takahashi Death Drop.
Time Bomb II was set up, but Eagles fought free as he got to the top rope. Takahashi hit a chop and wanted the Wheelbarrow Bomb while Eagles just wanted to get free. He’d go back up and nail the Super Turbo Backpack for a two count. A hard superkick would usually be followed by the 450 Splash to the leg, but Takahashi grabbed his leg. Another kick and 450 Splash to the leg, Ron Miller Special applied in the middle of the ring – Takahashi wouldn’t have a choice but to tap.
Breakneck action from the opening bell to the end, this match was an excellent Junior Heavyweight clash. Hiromu Takahashi showed that he was 100% but Robbie Eagles was simply better tonight. He was able to submit the face of the division, and the final moments were dramatic due to the charisma of Takahashi. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)
After the match, El Desperado would hit the ring, and look for a rematch against Eagles soon. Desperado would wager a match for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships if Eagles accepted this. Eagles accepted, but with the G1 soon – who knows when this will come.
However, don’t forget about Hiromu. He was emotional after this loss, and enraged. Will anything be able to stop Takahashi in Best of The Super Juniors as he will look for a chance to avenge this loss? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
