It’s amazing how some of the best this day in wrestling history moments are born out of the spur of the moment idea, and Mr. Socko was one of those.
Mr. McMahon was in the hospital and Mankind wanted to cheer him up. So, there was a clown, some balloon whatcha-ma-callits, and then Mankind went for the gold.
He pulled out an impromptu idea Mick Foley had before hand of a sweat sock puppet with a face made with permanent marker, and Mr. Socko was born.
Popular character
Mr. McMahon hated it from the start, making Mankind’s attempt a failure, but the fans loved it and the sweat sock quickly became a mainstay as Mankind added it to his arsenal for in the ring action.
Mr. Socko became as near a pop culture icon as an inanimate object as Mr. Socko accepted the role as part of the new mandible claw and brought cheers from the fans every time he was pulled out.
It can argued, probably successfully, that Mr. Socko should have his own place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
But Mr. McMahon’s hospital stay was far from over, and we are so much the richer for it.
Bedpan McMahon
When it comes to tracking down Mr. McMahon and continuing the beatdown he richly deserved, no one was better than “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
Especially dressed in hospital scrubs.
The segment between Austin and Mr. McMahon only lasted just over a minute, but it’s stood the test of time for twenty years, and mainly because during his assault, Austin nailed him on the head with a bedpan.
Imagine if it was full at the time? Kinda surprised no one thought of putting something in it. It was the Attitude Era, after all.
Austin adding a surprise rectal exam was almost as good, but not quite there. All together, it was a classic moment that’ll live forever in the hearts of fans.
Bedpan McMahon became the name for this segment and its popularity hasn’t waned and may actually have grown over the years as the current product as sent fans back to better days.
Still, there’s no way to tell when something will happen and earn a spot in the hearts of fans and make this day in wrestling history theirs.
