The Covington vs Poirier feud is heating up. Speaking with Submission Radio, Covington continued his main line of attack on Poirier, which is that Poirier isn’t quite as “nice” as he seems in his press appearances.
To demonstrate the point, Colby Covington called Poirier and his young family “Louisiana Swamp Trash”. “That’s the only fight, guys. Him and his family, they’re Louisiana swamp trash. Him and his little Jezebel of a wife, him and his little kid that he uses as a prop like he’s a family man, the fake charity guy, which is a write-off for his business.

He doesn’t really donate that money for kids and people. He’s just using that as a tax write-off. He’s a fake nice guy on camera; he’s a piece of sh*t off camera. I’ve seen this guy. I know how he is. I’ve seen how he treats other people. He’s a piece of sh*t. He’s a dirtbag. I’m gonna expose him.”
These accusations on the part of Colby Covington are nothing new. The pair were once teammates, and Covington claims that Dustin Poirier conspired to get him kicked out of their team.
In an earlier Submission Radio interview, Covington declared war on Poirier. “You’re a piece of sh*t. I’m gonna expose you. And if I do see you in the streets of South Florida, I guarantee I’m not holding back and I’m gonna drop you on the f*ckin’ concrete, you piece of sh*t.”
The pair are in separate weight divisions right now, but it may not require a street fight to settle this particular beef.
Both Colby and Dustin are preparing for title fights set to take place by the end of the year. Covington will face Kamaru Usman, the seemingly unassailable welterweight champion, at UFC 268. At their last meeting, Usman defeated Covington via TKO in the final round. Dustin Poirier is set to fight Charles Oliveira before the end of the year, although that fight remains unconfirmed.
Should Dustin Poirier manage to defeat Charles Oliveira and take the lightweight title, he may well look to join the hallowed ranks of two-division champions. Dustin recently said in an interview that he may well move up to welterweight to take on the champ there – whoever it may be.
“I definitely think I can fight at 170. Honestly, now at ‘55, my metabolism’s kinda caught up. When I was cutting to 145, between fights, I would get a lot heavier than I do now.
I just think my body, my metabolism was getting messed up and holding on to a lot of weight. I would shoot up to 190 when I was fighting ‘45. Now, I don’t even get past ‘82, which is kinda the max I really walk around at.
But I think I could fight at 170 as well.” If both Poirier and Covington with their title fights this year, Colby may well get his chance to “expose” Poirier after all.
