Will Ospreay is already back in the ring after a bad neck and back injury, and will be in the ring for New Japan Pro Wrestling later this month. He’s set for tag team action, but the other two members of United Empire are off in Japan holding their crowd. This means there is a new name joining the faction, and Ospreay has now teased who it could be on Twitter.
Will Ospreay Is Bringing A Buddy To Dallas
In an effort to help promote the NJPW Autumn Attack shows, Ospreay would post a tweet that might have revealed his mystery partner. He’d say the following: “I’ve been talking to a ʙᴜᴅᴅʏ of mine. Invited him to Dallas September 25th & 26th. Think he would fit in great with the crew.”
Putting emphasis on “buddy” was certainly a choice, given that Buddy Matthews (formerly WWE superstar Buddy Murphy) has been widely considered a perfect choice for the NJPW style and is free from his 90 day WWE Non-Compete Clause. Ospreay has no major connection to Buddy, but neither did Jeff Cobb, Aaron Henare or Great-O-Khan, the current members of United Empire.
Buddy Matthews Is Only Teased – But Makes The Most Sense
This is only just a tease, but would be a very good option for NJPW. There’s also not a huge amount of free agents who would fit the vibe of the United Empire. It would need to be a Junior Heavyweight, as that is what the faction lacks. While Buddy is jacked now, he is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion and fits the style.
The name of Marty Scurll has been thrown around by fans given his past with Ospreay. However, any company who would bring him in is set to be instantly blasted by fans following Scurll being implicated and unapologetic during the Speaking Out movement. While there are other possible names, such as another heavyweight in Bronson Reed, Buddy Matthews simply makes some sense.
