It’s time to bring the results of the matches that you very likely didn’t see in WWE this past week! From WWE Main Event to 205 Live to dark matches, WWE has a lot of action on a weekly basis that 95% of their fans will never see. However, these matches can often signal the direction of brands or certain wrestlers, giving them a tiny bit of relevance. This week saw Jeff Hardy once again kept out of the spotlight, female talent on main event, and some interesting team ups ahead of Smackdown Live.
Smackdown Live Brought Some Interesting Dark Match Action
Starting with this past Friday night on Smackdown, there were three dark matches on the show. The first saw Cal Bloom defeat Austin Theory in singles action. Cal Bloom is a very promising young prospect, who will very likely be finding a spot on TV soon. It is disheartening to see Theory take yet another loss, with this being eight in a row.
The second dark match was a very interesting one. Xia Li & Kacy Catanzaro would team up to take on Aliyah & Dakota Kai. In NXT, Li & Catanzaro were recent rivals, and the team of Aliyah & Kai is something few could have predicted. Li & Catanzaro got the win, and this could indicate future tag team plans for Smackdown & RAW.
Finally, we had a match after the televised main event. In it, Finn Balor teamed with The Street Profits to defeat Roman Reigns & The Usos. This was simply a match to send the fans home happy, and the baby faces will always come out on top, but it does give some hope of Balor coming out on top over Reigns in their coming clash.
Main Event Sees Jeff Hardy In Action, 205 Live Brings In Some Female Stars
This weeks episode of Main Event was a rather typical one. In the opening match, Jeff Hardy defeated Cedric Alexander. Since getting his classic singles theme back, fans were hoping to see Hardy in a bigger role, but that doesn’t seem to be the case as he can barely escape the main event. In the main event of Main Event, Mansoor & Mustafa Ali got a tag team win over Lucha House Party. This was a very fun match, and worth checking out if you have the time.
Finally, we come to 205 Live. With the recent changes coming into WWE NXT, we have to imagine 205 Live is once again at risk of being cut, but given that it was taped alongside NXT; we have at least one more episode coming tomorrow evening. It sees the return of female wrestlers to 205 Live, as Amari Miller defeated Cora Jade in the opener.
This is something fans have wanted to see, especially as the Cruiserweight division is so thin. In the main event, two heavyweights would clash in the home of the Cruiserweights, as Josh Briggs took on and defeated Joe Gacy. Honestly, if WWE added a cruiserweight match in, making this a three match show? It would be a perfect undercard showcase for NXT.
Should WWE use this past week’s episode of 205 Live as a template for future episodes? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
