The Mall of America is no stranger to historic professional wrestling moments, so it’s not farfetched that reported indicate they’re interested in hosting AEW Dynamite.
With AEW holding shows at the target Center, fans have been clamoring for their nostalgia fix and they took to social media to share their thoughts on AEW holding an event or two there.
The official account for the Mall of America tweeted in response, “We’re all for it! It worked great the first time. @AEW brings the 🔥🔥.”
This would be a great homage to the past and an event to remember as AEW more closely resembles WCW than it does WWE or any other company for many.
It’s hard to ignore the same “maverick” spirit AEW has compared to WCW despite them not directly competing with the WWE.
We can’t ignore how they’ve done a good job of honoring the past and this would also allow them to further put a stamp on respecting the past by paying homage to when WCW appeared there.
Rich history
As we mentioned above, The Mall of America has been the home of a couple historic wrestling moments as it hosted first WCW Monday Nitro and it houses Hulk Hogan’s first restaurant, Pastamania, both happening in 1995.
It’s more known for the night Lex Luger appeared to shock the world after he worked a WWE show the day prior.
This event ignited the Monday Night Wars and is why the WWE has 90 day non-compete clauses now.
While scheduling looks to tight for AEW to appear there this time around, it would be a great time for another reason.
On WCW Monday Nitro, Brian Pillman wrestled Jushin Thunder Liger and Ric Flair faced Sting.
With Sting and Brian Pillman Jr. working for the company, it’d bring things full circle to have them appear at a how in Mall of America.
We’re suckers for a good homage, and we think it’d be a fitting touch for Pillman Jr. to appear in the same arena his father did on a historic night.
Sure, AEW may not be setting and records or breaking boundaries, but it’d be an awesome experience for the fans and some of the wrestlers to relive some of those moments.
With any luck, Tony Kahn’s working on something along these lines and we’ll get an awesome treat.
