When it comes to roster additions to AEW in 2021, we’ve had some huge hits. CM Punk returning to the ring, Bryan Danielson going back to being the American Dragon, Adam Cole rejoining The Elite. All of these names are massive and have been helping AEW in a big way – but aside from Cole, weren’t investments into their future. However, a name like Daniel Garcia is just that, despite failing in his big matches.
Daniel Garcia Has Went After The Big Players
Since joining AEW, Daniel Garcia has wrestled a lot of their biggest names. CM Punk, Darby Allin & Jon Moxley have all stood across the ring from Red Death – and all came out with wins. When it comes to Dynamite & Rampage, Garcia has not won a match yet.
He’s proven that he can win on Dark & Dark: Elevation, with a big win over Matt Sydal being proof that he can beat established names – but changes are needed. Garcia himself recognizes this, and would tweet out the following.
“I’ve lost every match that I’ve had on Dynamite and Rampage. I thought I was on my way to being one of the best, but maybe I’m having a harder time adjusting than I thought I would. Something must change.”
Dumping 2point0 For Better Help?
When it comes to changes Garcia can make, there isn’t much he’s not already doing. He focuses on his strengths, those being his speed, striking and submission ability. These are the skills that have gotten him countless wins over the past two years on the indies, and allowed him to take men like Minoru Suzuki, Sting & CM Punk to the limit. They are the skills that had 20 year vet Alex Shelley saying he learned from wrestling Garcia. He isn’t the issue – perhaps his help is.
When he properly started to make an impact in AEW, it was alongside 2point0. Matt Lee & Jeff Parker have been the ones getting him into these big fights as they look to make a name for himself. This might not be the correct path to make Garcia the best he could possibly be. If Minoru Suzuki was keen on sticking around in AEW, he’d be the perfect mentor for Garcia, but maybe Bobby Fish or Bryan Danielson could bring out his next gear.
