Impact Wrestling has been making some big waves in professional wrestling with some of the moves they’ve made and the way they balance old and new school styles near perfectly, and now they’re entering the digital age.
Impact has their streaming service at impactwrestling.com called Impact Plus, but they’ve also recently started a private youtube sub-channel that offers special content for Ultimate Insiders.
The cost to be part of both is less than $15, but it appears they’ve come up with a way to increase their subscription numbers by adding a championship that looks like it’ll be exclusive to Impact Plus and Impact Ultimate Insiders.
They debuted the idea and championship on last night’s IMPACT! along with announcing the first two matches in the tournament: John Skyler vs Zicky Dice and Hernandez vs Crazzy Steve.

More to come
They haven’t said whether the championship is for their men or Knockouts divisions, and since they’ve had intergender matches it’s reasonable to expect the Digital Media Championship will be open to both.
While this has yet to be announced for sure, it will be a single elimination tournament that’ll conclude at Bound For Glory on October 23. Impact Wrestling released a statement detailing the basic layout of the tournament.
“Premiering Tuesday, October 5th exclusively on IMPACT Plus and YouTube for IMPACT Ultimate Insiders, a single-elimination tournament will determine the first-ever IMPACT Digital Media Champion! Two weekly matches including four as part of Wrestle Week will culminate with the first-ever Digital Media Champion being crowned at IMPACT Wrestling’s biggest pay-per-view event of the year, Bound For Glory.
“The first two matches kicking off the IMPACT Digital Media Championship Tournament next week will be John Skyler vs Zicky Dice on Tuesday, October 5th and Hernandez vs Crazzy Steve on Wednesday, October 6th. See them first on IMPACT Plus and YouTube for IMPACT Ultimate Insiders.
“Stay tuned for more news on the IMPACT Digital Media Championship Tournament.”
This has some potential, both good and bad.
It’s been compared to Zach Ryder’s Internet Championship and doesn’t seem to have reached the level of respect the WWE 24/7 Championship enjoys.
It doesn’t mean it won’t become something special, but it’s definitely going to have an uphill battle and we’re looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
