The police report from Jon Jones’ arrest on the weekend revealed damning and truly bizarre behavior from the fighter and convicted felon.
According to the report obtained by MMAFighting.com, “As Jones was being detained, he became irate and smashed his head into the front hood of the [Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department] patrol vehicle leaving a medium size dent as well as chipping of some of the paint on the vehicle.”
Jon Jones Wanted to Take Police On During Arrest, Headbutted Police Vehicle
Supposedly, “while placing him into handcuffs, he jokingly feinted that he was going to escape the handcuffs and fight the officers, with police reporting that Jones told them “he would like to take us all on and see what we could do”. Jones further threatened the police with a “huge lawsuit with the department for putting him in handcuffs on the biggest night of his life”.
Upon threats of tazing, he became more subdued. Jon Jones was arrested at Caesars Palace casino following a domestic dispute. Jones’ fiancée Jessie Moses was found by police with blood on her face and clothing, although she denied that Jones had hit her. She claims he had been “a little physical” with her, however.
This is not Jon Jones’ first run-in with the law. Various DUI and failed drug tests came during his reign as the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, but his most infamous arrest was a hit-and-run conviction involving a pregnant woman.
During this incident, Jones had crashed a rental car into two other vehicles and fled the scene, leaving a pregnant woman injured at the crash site. Witnesses claimed that Jones returned to the crash to grab some cash from his vehicle before fleeing on foot.
As a result of this conviction, Jon Jones was stripped of his title, removed from the UFC’s official rankings, and suspended from the sport indefinitely. Many believe this was the beginning of Jones’ downward spiral, and although he returned to the Octagon to reclaim the light heavyweight title, he was repeatedly stripped of the belt for various drug-related violations.
Jon Jones posted bail, and was out of jail around twelve hours following his arrest. He is due to appear in court on October 26, where he will face charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and tampering with a police vehicle, a felony.
It seems like Jon Jones’ arrival in the heavyweight division is looking further away than ever. Do you think Jon Jones should be allowed to return to the UFC in light of his recent actions? Let us know in the comments.
